Very cool video. My parents stayed at the Flamingo in 78 for their honeymoon. That period in the 80s and 90s really changed the look of the strip.

It's amazing how that drop started right after the passage of the racist 94 Crime Bill.

Las Vegas has done a 180 in just the last few years from what it used to be. I went in 2011 and paid like $85 with tax for a room at the Mirage, and had a full steak dinner at the Ellis Island restaurant for $4.95.

Some of those prices are wild. I noticed a steakhouse advertising a $3.99 meal. Wouldn't that be nice today

That’s about 30.50 today. You can get a steak for that at a restaurant chain but not a nice restaurant

Fremont street is where to go. I imagine it's as close as you'll get to the old Vegas

I didn't get to experienced the old Vegas, but the few times I've been we spent all our time on Fremont around the El Cortez hotel. That place is what I imagine old Vegas was like.

You can play $5 craps, the drinks come one after the other because it isn't crowded, and the dealers don't take themselves too seriously.

The strip is fricking horrible.

Please stop with the FBI crime data, this has been investigated and invalidated by the congressional oversight committee.

My grandparents used to take an annual trip to classic Vegas in the 60's and 70's. They stayed and gambled at all the classic old hotels and casinos. And they'd seen Sinatra, Dean Martin, even Elvis. They loved the old mobbed-up Vegas. It was fun for them, a big thing with their generation.

No

James Comer threw a hissy fit about revisions in data that are normal in the course of the data collections/analysis operations.

This was stilly arguments by Republicans to pretend that the FBI was rigging the data to help Biden, because they were hyper-focusing on the post-Covid spike for partisan purposes.

Update: crime has continued to fall in kind following the post-Covid spike.

Why isn't Comer doing the same meltdown and bringing Kash Patel in front of Congress?

Back in the day when flights to Vegas, hotel rooms, and meals were dirt cheap.

Reported crime rate down these days because 1) the liberal DAs don’t charge half the people; 2) FBI manipulating the stats. The real crime rate is sky high.

Yup. They lost money on those in order to get you there to gamble

I assume that was the days when you could go out, get something to eat and have a decent time without breaking the bank.

I pity the people who are growing up in today's society in their prime. They are going bankrupt just to show off on social media. Growing up in the 80's and 90's as a kid was so much better in every possible way.
