Surely that isn't a picture of the vehicle after the crash? The black cover of the cockpit makes me wonder if it's covering a body waiting for the coroner to arrive.

That’s an umbrella, presumably to block the sun/heat from making the interior unbearably hot.

By going as fast as physically possible. Might be one of the dumbest statements on the OT. Which is saying something.

Man, they have come a long way since Mr. Knot Farrington pushed his car past the 200 MPH mark in 1960!
I believe he still lives in Metairie…he’s 105 years old!

Are you mentally this stupid?

One, streamliners have to reduce drag as much as possible and downforce equals drag. Second, the downforce they do produce is mainly done under the car using ground effects produced by the undertray. Normally ground effects produce a higher downforce to drag ratio than wings.
Speed Demon III was a very sophisticated streamliner and was competing againts its previous iteration that holds the piston-powered land speed record of IIRC right at 470mph. Moving closer to the 500mph mark which has long been the Holy Grail of piston powered cars.

No link? No video? Anyone have a link to the video of said crash? Can’t seem to find it.

Baw practiced by driving from BR to Laffy.

You realize downforce is creates drag, right? Drag is the enemy of "top speed."

The black leather seat was a mistake. Should have gone for velour.

Is there no footage available?

At that speed one small bump or steering mistake and it could be all over in the blink of an eye.

Vehicle is way more intact than I thought it would be.

Next you'll tell me there's no AC in it

The grasp on aerodynamics is pretty good, but the risk is high with a mechanical failure.
