I'm not an aerodynamicist, but I don't see a lot of downforce on that car.
Unfortunately, once that thing caught air, it was over.

I think you have to be comfortable with the idea of possible death to even do what they do.
Ayrton Senna (F1 great for those that don't know) used to say "you have to be ready to die every time you get in the car"
Stirling Moss another F1 great said "To achieve anything in this game, you must be prepared to dabble in the boundary of disaster.”
These guys all know what game they are playing. Getting to the edge of boundaries has big consequences when things go wrong.

What did he hit though? Or did he flip it over?

If any of you are into hot rods then you know who Gene Winfield is. One of the legendary car builders he passed away earlier this year. He had one final wish upon his death, make one last trip to the Bonneville Salt Flats.
The late custom car legend Gene Winfield went on his final ride during a high-speed tribute on the Bonneville Salt Flats amidst Speed Week 2025. His ashes were set free from the Mooneyes Streamliner parachute at a speed of 341 miles-per-hour.

How do you lose control going in a straight line?
at that speed, the tires are pretty much not even touching the ground anymore, so any bumps in the road or gusts of wind, can and will, completely frick you right the hell up

Ashley Force ran a 3 second 1000 foot run earlier this year at 343 MPH in her Top Fuel Dragster at an NHRA event.
Is she the hot one?
Really though, don’t you have to make the trip, turn around, do it again on the way back, and the average is considered the speed record? That’d disqualify dragsters right there. And wasn’t this person planning on doing something nuts like 500+?
This “car” holds the current record and is the only one to ever break the sound barrier.
I suspect it’s a combination of balls of steel and having a few screws loose to do something like that.
…
…
Where can I sign up?

Yep. Gotta account for any tailwind advantage you may have, so you run it both ways within a certain timeframe.

I bet that mfering car went airborne, kinda like those racing boats used to do. I remember the guy that drove the blue flame which was the record holder for a long time talking about that being the greatest risk of it trying to fly etc.
At least guy died doing what he enjoyed

All that just to die because he forgot to turn left at Tamburello

And didn't even do it on a public road. Hats off

In a thousand years ain’t nobody gonna remember anything about any of us anyway … might as well have some fun.

Sounds like one of the coolest ways to go out if you ask me.
Not trying to be super weird, but there are tons of people that just feel like they've done enough with their life. They might even be considered suicidele, but they maybe just did so much with their younger life that they just don't have much more to do. These people get to the point where they do wild things thinking if it is my time then it is my time. Sometimes they make the news like this story, sometimes they don't.
