7mm is not huge. May be hard to pass on its own though. Why did they not just lithotripsy that thing.? It is the easiest way to blast a kidney stone without going to get it. Ihave had two and it worked like a charm.

I had a lithrotripsy in June for a the 7mm and a 9mm that were side by side. The kidney can only withstand so many of the shocks and they were unable to break up the 7mm. The plan was to do it again. A week later, the 7mm moved and blocked my kidney. I went to the hospital and was on the verge of sepsis. The doctor said his only concern at that point was draining the kidney, so he put the stent in and said we'd deal with the stone later. I passed probably 30 fragments when they did that. Today, they went in and removed the 7mm and then blasted the bigger fragments with the laser. They also removed the stent.

I honestly don’t think water has anything to do with it.

The idea is drinking lots of water causes more frequent urination, keeping the kidneys flushed. It won't prevent the stones from forming but they get passed before they get too big and cause damage.

This isn't the reason my kids aren't allowed to drink anything but water except at parties, but it sure does bolster that decision. That said, I'm glad we're not drinking the Louisiana brown water, but florida water is supposed to have more chemicals. All that's better than sugar water though.

Sweet tea is the culprit, apparently. For me, anyway. I rarely drink coffee or soda.

I have been dealing with kidney stones on and off for the last 18 years.

My urologist told me sweet tea and anything carbonated are yuge contributors.
Also, taking large amounts of vitamins and minerals are big contributors.

I keep some antibiotics handy if I feel a UTI starting up due passing a stone. (yep men get 'em as well) .

Is drinking a lot of beer also a good way to prevent kidney stones? It also causes frequent urination.

-drink more water
-add lemon juice to the water 1x/day
-drink a shot of apple cider vinegar and lemon juice with a straw (limits acid exposure to teeth)
-Stop drinking soda and tea

Kidney stone family here. Lithotripsies, stents, cystoscopies.
Our stones are Calcium Oxalate kidney stones. Foods (almonds, spinach, blueberries, etc..) /drinks high in Oxalates (tea).

Eating some form of calcium along with the foods /drinks high in Oxalates helps prevent the stones from forming.
Also, I squeeze half of a fresh lemon in my water every day.
I have never been a soft drink person, but I used to drink a lot of brewed sweet tea. Now I only drink water and sometimes a cup of herb tea at night.

Ever since doing this, I haven't had a kidney stone in approx.. 4 yrs.

kind of stent they remove in the doctor's office by pulling it out with a string sans anesthesia.

I’ve had stents but they put me under to take them out. I can’t imagine having them removed with no anesthesia. I would shoot that doctor in the face. This stuff tastes awful but I’ve had good results with it.

I had the non anesthesia string removed stent. Worst pain in my life because it had fused to my urethra after a month.

I passed a 7mm two years ago. The 3rd stone in last 50 years! The 1st hurt like hell for 5 hours. The 2nd felt like worst heartburn ever but in the wrong place for 2 days. The 3rd was just like recurring gas pain; start to finish was 45 days with occasional discomfort. At least with me it got easier.

Urologist put me on calcium citrate at much higher concentration than lemons can provide. Imaging shows that I still have a 3mm. I'd like it to pass at a convenient time and place, but I'm told I have no control.

The shame of lying naked on a table while a dude pulls it out is a lot more painful than the actual act. I was 2 Valium deep, but it didn't really bother me. Just felt like I was leaking piss for a couple hours afterwards.

My wife (no pics) has 3 or 4 attacks a year. Her kidneys just manufacture them like that is their purpose. Has had lithotripsy, laser surgery, you name it……and had to remove her own stent on multiple occasions. I have never been more turned off watching her pull that thing out of herself……

No. I used to drink sweet tea, almost exclusively. Now, I drink lemonade, orange juice, milk and cranberry juice mixed with other fruit juices.
