In the same vein, I was listening to Robert Barnes today and he was talking about his upbringing in Tennessee. Chattanooga, I think. Really early in life (12?) he was exposed to a voluntary group in the school system - I won't cite the group because I don't recall from the interview - but it gave him an understanding of how government and indoctrination works. He basically says, 'we have 100 people in this room right now, and 4 of these people are going to work for the government, and we're all going to go along with their dictates, with no rational reason why other than their own assigned moral probity.' He says alot more but that is somewhat specific to your quote.

my cousin's husband died last weekend of Covid and my cousin is currently on a ventilator and not doing well at all. Both of them in their early 40s


ETA: they are the only ones I have known die from it and I've known a good bit of people with it

I just made this crap up, but this is how easy it is to gaslight and provide a narrative for ANYTHING to counter a rational person's logic. We are screwed.
