Bayou Traditions.

If by chance you’re in the Lafayette area, try Faith House. They help abused women and children set up new homes.
Perhaps there is something like that in your area.
God bless for doing this!

I used to think if I just donated stuff to a charity store that it went to good use. I had no idea that a huge portion of it ends up in landfills (sometime in makeshift landfills in Africa). Overconsumimg is something I need to work on.

Not sure where you're located, but you can call the Veterans of America. They'll pick your stuff up from your house. You don't even have to bring it anywhere.
Veterans
There are several other organizations, some private and not 501c, that will pick up your stuff instead of making you drop it off.

In Baton Rouge, here is the answer. Small local charity that does amazing work. LINK

The Salvation Army did amazing things for a family member in need once that was on the streets, so I give to them. They are a great organization, IMO.
Other than that for the smaller things like clothes and books you could also reach out to different shelters if you aren't just wanting to give it all to one spot.

When I used to work on the road a lot I would be at some places for 6+ months and acquire so much crap like couches, tables, bed frames, kitchen stuff, etc. When ever I would leave to go to a different city I would always donate to a local battered women's/domestic violence shelter and they were always easy to work with.

Goodwill or Salvation Army stores will usually take items that can be reused.
You might check to see if the local store is capable of pickup for furniture.
ETA: for some reason I couldn’t see all the previous replies on my phone, so my answer was a bit redundant.

I hope your work paid for that stuff?
Did you ever consider just getting a trailer?

They pay for a hotel. I did that for a while, but it kind of sucks. So if I knew they wanted me there for 3+ months I would just get an apartment and they would pay the rent.
I tried packing everything one time and then brining it the next time, but it was a huge PITA so it was much easier to just buy stuff when I got to a new town.

Call a battered women’s shelter.

We're seniors and downsizing our house needs to a smaller location. We have too much stuff and would like to donate items to a reputable charity. Quiet a bit of stuff such as kitchen items, clothing, furniture, books, garage items etc etc
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
My daughter sold her house last year and had to do the same thing. She had such great hopes that she could gift her extra stuff (which was a lot of stuff) to a well meaning charity. The charities were so picky and hard to deal with that on moving day we were still stuck with all that stuff. We started putting the extras out on the sidewalk thinking someone would pick it up the next day. Hell, we started at 6PM and by 10 PM everything we set out was gone. People driving by would stop and look and get on the cell phone and before you know it we had people out there on the curb waiting for the next load of stuff.
Actually felt good to give it to someone who wanted it. And it went straight to the people rather than to some admins and beaurocrats.

We used these 2 when clearing out my parent’s home before selling.
They’ll take most anything and Salvation Army came and took furniture and anything else we wanted to donate.
