The ones driving the speed limit aren’t causing anything.

Not how this works. If the majority of traffic is doing a certain thing, the minority are the ones at fault for congestion. If 9 out of 10 cars are speeding, the one car that's not is most dangerous to the group.

ETA - assuming the 9 are going the same speed, yet still speeding.

All this proves is that the eventual Self driving truck/car will began a new era of safer highways. People need to be honest with themselves, we are all distracted at some point and we never know when that will lead to this scenario. Whether it be their mind, devices or car functions , we all have lapses in judgments in short term and it’s only getting worse

Traveling to the UK and seeing their “average speed” cameras in action made me think it was a good solution for the BR and Basin bridges

Essentially you pass electronic checkpoints. Pass one too quickly and a summons is applied to the vehicles registration.

Not that any American highway would ever incorporate it.

But the real answer will be fully autonomous driving on the interstate. Eliminate human error at high speeds

We need a rail system for 18 wheelers over that bridge.

I've recently said on here a few times about how we need to be more concerned about infrastructure in this country.

Politicians make smaller issues bigger than they are because it gets people emotional and that's how you get people to the polls, but we really do turn a blind eye to the improvement of our infrastructure (ours as in the country as a whole).

Just like how the railroad system brought the country closer together, highways and bridges improved traveling which helped us economically, the the interstate system. Its time to evolve our roadways to be up to date with how traffic has evolved. Have lanes just for 18wheelers. Sort of like how train have their own track to travel on..

Time is literally money for these drivers and many of them are probably driving exhausted, etc.. And when they hit another vehicle, that's usually hard to survive.

Lowering the speed limit my actually make this worse. But hey.. At least it makes it look like something is being done.

Troopers need to go back to enforcing the speed limits over the basin via their aircraft if they are still grounded. They use to be airborne out of BTR daily and patrolling over I-10, I-12, & I-55

The reality is people are too fricking stupid and/or impatient for their own good. It's 18 miles. If you drive 60mph, it takes 18 minutes. If you drive 80 mph, it takes 13.5 minutes - or however long it takes to clear the accident.

Leave for work 5 minutes earlier and maybe you won't kill anybody or get killed.

In kentucky on one stretch of I think I-75 they make them stay in the left lane. Completely fricks everything up.

That’s in a construction zone, because there is no shoulder on the right-hand side and if one of those semis were to edge too far they would tip.

The current governor of KY has been pushing the DOT to widen all interstate hwy in the state to 3 lanes and semis are to use both right lanes only.

It can go back to the old days which was good and bad.

Bad
Troopers ride in middle lane to slow traffic to double nickels 55.

Good
They need to open larger truck scales on both sides of the spillway getting on to pull some trucks off the highway for weight & DOTD checks. That is basically one of the purposes of the truck scales.

Rebuild parts of Hwy 190 to handle traffic better to take traffic off I-10.

Unfortunately or fortunately depending on person you probably more speeding enforcement. State senators are probably getting complaints from this and it will flow down to Troop A and Troop I.
You will probably see more public donation patrols. The town of Henderson will be like we will hold your beer and issue for mandatory donations to make the town of Washington off I-49 look like amateurs.

Yes well that sounds nice paw paw, but 60 mph is mind-numbingly slow if you commute or are on a long trip. There’s a reason the speed limit is 60-70 on the interstate. I seriously doubt lowering the speed limit will help.
And since I cruise at 70+ and have never had an accident or caused one, I’ll thank your slower moving arse to stay in the right lane and Not worry about what I’m doing.

Quit being the mind-numbing a-hole that clogs the interstate system for 180 miles round trip 5 days a week.

Louisiana should make it law that trucks have to stay in the right lane on the interstate.

This only works if you set the minimum speed limit for personal vehicles the same as the maximum speed limit for trucks. You know how many idiots on the interstate I see going under 60 or even 55. this screws up traffic just as bad as anything.

I think they should enforce the restrictions that already exist while upgrading US-190 to a freeway grade route between Opelousas and Baton Rouge.

Hate to say it but they need to create a Basin Bridge police force like the Causeway commission to be there 24/7 for enforcement/

So what doesn't make sense to me is that the speed limit wad previously lowered during the Foster administration due to accidents. Yet we still have accidents. Doesn't this prove that lowering the speed limit was a mistake?

They stopped strict enforcement after 3-4 years.
