BS. It wasn’t great but there was plenty of middle class families, both white and black, that lived there in the 80’s
Downtown Little Woods has a couple of good food options: Walkers BBQ and Castnet Seafood are both legit. Henry’s House for a beer

Is Walkers BBQ still doing well over there?
Edit… just saw the post above

Oh yeah there's a bad stretch. Though there are also two really good places to eat on that stretch.
Vucinovich's and 2 sistas. Both have killer lunch plates.
So the East is no longer "home of absolutely not one good restaurant"?

One of these individuals is a family member’s ex. I don’t have details but he was working with a partner as a locksmith. The partner died and he’s hanging in there after getting shot in the head.

This was a good area to grow up in the 1970s and early 80s. Noticeable change around 83-84. Was time to move in 85.

Just another day in New Orleans East

It always amazes me how quickly it happened. My dad used to work out there. We used to go to Lake Forest in 83 and 84. By 85, he switched jobs to metairie after two robberies at gunpoint.

Little Woods, what's that area like now? Used to be all working class families but that was a long time ago.
in the Summer of 1985, I dated a girl from Meraux whose family had a camp on LP in Little Woods. Always remember getting off at Hwy 47 / Paris Rd. and driving to the levee. We fished, boiled crabs, water ski'd, and had a great time never feeling threatened.
I imagine shortly thereafter it went South

Kaare Johnson used to say that when there was a caller from there.

77 ish through 80 ish. Could ride bikes from great grand parents off of franklin and robert e lee with a mix group of kids and go playing around fishing/exploring in the woods over the levee in little woods - snakes galor...... late 80s
Used to do the same thing in the mid-seventies. There was a lake in the middle of a subdivision (can't remember the name) that we would swim in. We heard later that year that a kid got his arm taken off in an alligator attack in the same lake. Luckily that kid survived. Wonder what ever became of him, though.
