This wasn't supposed to start until 2024 - no way they are ahead on the timeline

They are saying 4 years now? But only 1 year of lane closures?

It took these people almost a year to re-pour some patches and curbs on Bluebonnet and within a few months about 1/5th was breaking loose.

I had a relative move down here from CT for a few years. He did road construction up there. He always laughed at how pathetically long it took them to complete a project in LA

What's frustrating is this isn't always the case. The I-10 widening from Highland to Hwy 73 at dutchtown was done VERY fast.
But the project before that, widening I-10 from Siegen to Highland took 3x's as long. Mindboggling.

Is this because they wanted to keep the Washington st exit open or would’ve occurred regardless?

You really believe they'll actually have it done in a year?

The split to Highland has 5 overpasses and 4 interchanges. Highland to 73 has none of either. Not close to the same complexity of project.

Dude has a MUCH better and MUCH cheaper plan to accomplish the exact same thing the DOTD wants to do

Of course, everyone in power with a say in this completely ignores it

He embarrassingly horrific widening project wasn’t from the split to highland. It was only from Siegen to Highland.

They ended up having to replace the railroad bridge which added a lot of time.

I'd really like to hear from someone here as to why they think this is a good idea.

I do not think it is a good idea, but given the horrible design they have to work with from the 1960’s, and considering that this approach will drastically cut down the construction time, I am not really sure what else would be a better idea.. I am glad something is finally happening.

I’d love to hear a better one..

The smart thing to do would be to tell them they have 6 months and every day over is a $100K fine.

When they rebuilt the I-45 Pierce Elevated through downtown Houston about 20-25 years ago this is what TXDoT did as part of the contract offered.

From Traylor Brothers Construction website:

quote:

IH-45 Pierce Elevated Bridge

HARRIS COUNTY, TX.   •   $28 MILLION VALUE

The contract had two 95-day shutdown periods during which the northbound and southbound structures were required to be reconstructed. The contract provided a bonus payment of $53,000/day for early completion, and a penalty of $53,000/day for late completion. Traylor Bros., Inc. completed the reconstruction of the northbound bridge in 88 days and the southbound bridge in 72 days, allowing us to earn the maximum bonus of $1.59 million (the largest-ever early completion bonus offered by TXDOT).

Do you really think liquidated damages are a foreign concept in Louisiana?

This can’t be real…

There’s no way they are going to shut down a 6 lane interstate to 2.

Oh it’s real. And it’s happening.
