I'd really like to hear from someone here as to why they think this is a good idea. I'd imagine this might be the absolute worst idea DOTD could possibly think of.
Nicholson from the bridge to campus is already a third world level road. I assume they're going to wait until the bridge is under construction to inevitably repave it.

It supposedly reduces total construction time by a lot. Tremendous pain for one year or merely a lot of pain for significantly longer.

This is absolutely fricked
There’s no way this happens
They needed to build a loop before they tried to do this project if they want to shut the only legitimate throughway down.

This can’t be real…
There’s no way they are going to shut down a 6 lane interstate to 2.

The smart thing to do would be to tell them they have 6 months and every day over is a $100K fine.
Of course, it'll exceed the allotted time and they'll have skeleton crews on nights and no work on weekends, then blame the delay on weather.

these the same people that poured one piling on the college flyover in a year?

It took these people almost a year to re-pour some patches and curbs on Bluebonnet and within a few months about 1/5th was breaking loose.

That’s only the smart thing to do if you can actually get someone competent to bid the job on those terms.
The problem with asking for a miracle is that the only contractors willing to agree to it are the ones who will just tell the state what they want to hear, then roll the dice on the state being too chickenshit to actually collect on the LD’s. As it turns out, those aren’t generally the guys you actually want doing the work.
If the state would grow some balls and put one of these operations out of business over failure to meet the contract terms, they might be able to get some honest bids. But whenever that almost happens, somebody’s cousin in the legislature/capitol manages to make the problem disappear.
Regardless, unfortunately this job isn’t the one to make an example out of. This job is the reason you make an example on the smaller ones.

Is it simply to repair/replace what is there, or are they going to add lanes, or what?
Posted on 8/24/22 at 9:26 pm to gsvar2004
Anyone willing to put money on this plan being finished in a year?
I’m putting the over/under at 20 months

Justified homicide, but still a homicide.

Except for the major construction projects that will be happening on Lee Dr., Bluebonnet, and Nicholson all at the same time.
Pretty ridiculous for that long of a stretch on a major interstate being reduced to 1 lane for that long of a time. I guess they figured we went 60 years with I-10 being one lane coming off the bridge we might as well make a lot more 1 lane.
And if they are saying up to a year you should figure at least 1.5 - 2 years

Desperately need to widen that section or I-10. Wish there was a way to avoid this lane closure though.
