So you open things up? That doesn't even make sense. "There will be more cases of people possibly getting sick and infecting others and possibly dying BUT doesn't mean we lock things down and stay inside." You don't want more cases...No one wants more cases just like no one wants to be sick or infect others, possibly those they love or care for.

Yes it does make sense. This virus is not close to as fatal as people think.

And because far more people will die from a deeper recession. Generational poverty kills exponentially more people and really impacts children the most.

We don't shut down roads because people die from car accidents, even ones that aren't their fault. We put in laws and practices to mitigate poor outcomes, just like we should with this virus.

Opening things up doesn't mean I start shaking hands with strangers after sneezing in my palm. We still isolate vulnerable, social distance, practice good hygiene, etc.

But it will. And to nobody's fault. It's just inevitably.

Wearing a mask can help stop the spread of the virus.

The less the virus spreads, especially to vulnerable, the sooner more things can open back up.

It isn't that hard to wear a mask. I don't get the big deal.

Great thing about the US is our economy is strong. It won't crumble as fast or hard as people feel it will. But risking the lives of people to go work and potentially get sick and infect more won't help. That'll just put us in a worse position i feel.

You don’t have to hear it... but that is a fact.

You clearly have no idea about what recessions do to population health, violent crime rates, hunger, child abandonment, etc.

It will be much, much worse than COVID19 if we continue to destroy the economy.

They knew it would. We knew it would. That was part of the plan since early March. The justification for the shut-down was to slowly phase the virus across the population as to not overload the healthcare system.

Now here we are without overloaded hospitals and declining cases. But the goalposts now dictate we have to completely eradicate it by a vaccine. By the way, we have vaccines for the flu but it still spreads like wildfire every winter.

This is wrong. My plant hasn't shut down. Thousands of people come in here every day. We are social distancing, washing our hands, having conference call meetings, etc. 2 people in this plant have gotten the virus. The people that had closely interacted with them were quarantined until they could get tested. All negative. So many businesses could be doing this and be just fine.

Opening things up will clearly lead to an increase in cases, that much is inevitable. How many new cases is the question. That's why the plan is to ease restrictions and open up in phases. As long as the increase in cases remain gradual, and not a huge spike, the hospitals wont be in danger of being overrun and we will generally be in pretty good shape.

You're tired of hearing it cuz its not what you want to hear not cuz its not true.

Like others have said, opening things back up will certainly lead to more cases but that doesn't mean we shouldn't do it. But you continue to bury your head in the sand if you'd like.

How can you be 100% sure? You're assuming.
Further, how bad will these cases be?

I have never once heard any official make this claim. The issue is that places like BR and Monroe's hospitalization numbers are still climbing. I went to BR last week for business and you wouldn't even know there was a pandemic going on. Every parking lot is completely full. You want to blame anyone for this thing being extended, blame the mouth breathers that refuse to follow the rules.

I can be 100% sure becuase things are locked down currently and we are still seeing cases rise in places like BR and while cases are declining in most places, there are still some new cases. So opening tings up won't make it magically disappear.

The same as all the other cases. Some will be mild and some will need hospitalization. Why would that have changed in the last 2 months?

So if you have "mouth breathers" currently not following the rules then why would a small opening like Texas cause any more cases?

Of course it will but that’s no excuse to stay locked down. That purpose was to slow it down so that it could be managed. We’ve done that.

Yep. I understand that going back to normal will put me at risk. It puts my mother at risk. It puts many people at risk, and many people will catch the virus. Hopefully the recent statistics showing the mortality rate being lower than thought will ring true.

But the entire point of the quarantine period was to flatten the curve in order for hospitals to not be overrun. They weren't overrun. We've figured out testing and have numerous studies nearing completion on potential treatments of symptoms.

We should be able to identify positive cases and quarantine them to lower the R0.

It's time to go back to normal and accept the fact that a new virus is here and is going to kill people. It's morbid and difficult, but we can't hide for years waiting on the perfect vaccine.

Seasonal changes, herd immunity. Can you disprove this? You can't always assume what is will continue.

I look at it like, the 'risk' will be there next week, next month, next year, etc. What are you going to do? Spend your whole life inside? There is no cure and there may never be! So I say open it all up, some will get the virus, some will not, but the longer we stay 'closed' we are just putting off the inevitable! Those who are higher risk have already learned to be more careful, and they can certainly stay that way, but no reason for the whole country to be held back!

so your suggestion is to stay home forever? thats your only option since this will never go away. Its here for the long haul. You want to stay home, do so. Its your right. Dont tell everyone what they can wear, what the can do and where they can go.
