Don't get your kids tutors, as it exacerbates inequality.

As school districts across the nation announce that their buildings will remain closed in the fall, parents are quickly organizing “learning pods” or “pandemic pods” — small groupings of children who gather every day and learn in a shared space, often participating in the online instruction provided by their schools. Pods are supervised either by a hired private teacher or other adult, or with parents taking turns.
At face value, learning pods seem a necessary solution to the current crisis. But in practice, they will exacerbate inequities, racial segregation and the opportunity gap within schools. Children whose parents have the means to participate in learning pods will most likely return to school academically ahead, while many low-income children will struggle at home without computers or reliable internet for online learning.

Got to love communism. Where everyone is equally uneducated

Kids whose parents didn’t give a shite about them before this didn’t have much of a shot anyway

what about those forced to now home school their children these last few months? If little Brealynn and Dallas have gone up 2 reading grades in 3 months is that also attributing to the problem?

They aren't saying don't a get tutor if your school closes. They are saying keep schools open so you don't have to rely a tutor.

So I guess we should shutdown all preschools, after school programs, and basically all private schools that aren't free to everyone because the give 'privileged' kids an advantage?

I know I’m making a bit of a logical leap here, but these discussions on inequities all frustrate me in the same way. Why do these people hate the development of excellence? It’s how achievement is fostered.
They’d have us wallow in destitution and misery so long as everyone had equality of outcome.

really? Gavin Newsome recently mentioned that if public schools aren’t opening, neither would private in the state of California.

quote:Gavin Newsome didn't write this. The entire point of the article is that closing schools will exacerbate educational inequality.

okay? I’m pointing out that it is happening
Posted on 7/28/20 at 8:52 pm to Klark Kent
And I'm pointing out that has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Article is behind a paywall for me.
My earlier point still stands.

Seems like an easy solution would be open the schools with reasonable precautions in place - get the kids an education and get their parents back to work - but what do I know?
Gotta love framing “providing your kids with the best possible opportunities” as a BAD thing.

Be sure you don't breathe anymore. That's racist and a mark of white privilege.

All these liberal idiots should probably stop politicizing the kids going back to school and get their broke arse know nothing little shits in class to eat 2 meals and hopefully learn something.
