Anyone have a recipe? I’ve been able to get close but it’s not quite right yet.

Similar at my hospital - it'll be optional for now since it's under the EUA. Apparently it can't be mandatory unless it has full FDA approval.

I fail to rationalize how a healthcare provider's weight has any damn thing to do with their ability to care for patients.

Green Street Smoked Meats in West Loop for barbecue.
Little Goat Diner (also West Loop) is delicious for breakfast/brunch.
Depending on where you're moving to/how much you want to wander, Buttermilk (in Geneva - far west suburb, and I think maybe Naperville?) also has delicious breakfast/brunch.
Adding on to Portillos - ask for the fries extra crispy (they also travel really well that way).
Enjoy your time in Chicagoland!

re: Where does Moana rank all time for Disney animated movies?
Posted by AngryOtter on 8/25/20 at 1:05 pm to Tiger1242
I really liked Moana - between it, Tangled, and Frozen, I think Disney could have another run similar to the 90s princess movies on their hands if they can keep it up.

"Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue" from Airplane! - honestly most of the scenes in the control tower.

At some point during 8?
If you REALLY want to watch the beginning of season 8, I'd stop after the Battle of Winterfell.

Brownies are awesome. Even the worst brownie is better than an oatmeal raisin cookie. Cookies should not taste like granola.

I wonder how far this season will go.
I've been wrong for literally every season, but it might make sense to go to 1992 and end with the "Annus Horribilis" Speech. It depends a lot on where they plan on ending season 6, though.

re: Any experience with Pugs, Corgis, Dauschunds?
Posted by AngryOtter on 8/5/20 at 10:17 am to GentleJackJones
We had a Corgi when I was a kid and she was the sweetest girl - super energetic as a puppy and loving as hell.
I got a pug as an adult and she was amazing. She wound up living with my parents when they fell in love with her, and she was a loyal little cuddle bug until she passed away in the winter. My parents made it three months before they got another pug - she's a puppy and it sounds like she acts like it, but can't fault a puppy for being a puppy.
I always wanted small dogs (also had beagles growing up), but my family and I have a black lab mix rescue and she is the sweetest animal on earth. Absolutely loves other dogs and tiny humans and wouldn't hurt a fly. It really all comes down to the dog and the environment.

re: Home Depot vs Lowes
Posted by AngryOtter on 8/4/20 at 8:56 am to STLhog
The last few places I've lived, I've preferred Lowe's. Their stores tend to be more organized and better stocked. Since COVID, we've had good curbside experiences at both.
Best TV Opening Credits?
Posted by AngryOtter on 7/31/20 at 6:05 pm
What shows (recent or not) have had the best opening credits sequences? I feel like HBO has an edge here but maybe I just watch more there.
For me, True Detective (season one) and GoT might be the best.

re: Don't get your kids tutors, as it exacerbates inequality.
Posted by AngryOtter on 7/28/20 at 8:56 pm to Kujo
Seems like an easy solution would be open the schools with reasonable precautions in place - get the kids an education and get their parents back to work - but what do I know?
Gotta love framing “providing your kids with the best possible opportunities” as a BAD thing.

re: Women should not wear makeup
Posted by AngryOtter on 7/28/20 at 8:45 pm to DavidTheGnome
A good proportion of women who wear makeup (especially those who give a shite about it and enjoy the process) wear it for the sake of themselves and/or other women, not for men.
re: TV Shows That Got Better Over Successive Seasons
Posted by AngryOtter on 7/28/20 at 11:51 am to Mizz-SEC
I tend to feel like most shows peak in the middle to late middle. Some have a steeper curve to get there.
The Office (US) is almost unwatchable for the first 1-1.5 seasons, but gets better then falls off again.
GoT started off slow (partially budget, partially world-building), but kept getting better up to [insert your season of choice, but the end was shite].
Breaking Bad is probably the best example of a show that got progressively better and better and ended strong.

Dude, she was 9... being overweight/obese is a risk factor because of the stress it puts on your body OVER TIME. As in longer than a fraction of 9 years.
re: Take notes mouth breathers. Wear a mask, or don’t cry when your trashy bar shuts down
Posted by AngryOtter on 7/26/20 at 2:29 pm to Smeg
It's the equivalent of buying "practice" sutures or scalpels online that come with a warning that they aren't for human use. They'd cut or hold skin together just fine, but they don't have FDA approval.
Demand for masks skyrocketed, manufacturers started cranking them out, they weren't lab-tested against SARS-CoV-2, so you get a warning label that they don't work for it. It doesn't mean they don't provide any protection, it means don't sue them if you wear a mask and still get sick.

re: Taylor Swift's Folklore album is amazing

On a first listen the songs can sound repetitive, especially just casually listening. If you're able to re-listen and really focus, though, the themes and the lyrics are great. Definitely stronger than her last few albums (not that they were bad).

It’s almost enough to make you think that screening and better diagnostics mean more children are being diagnosed.
It’s about recognition, not prevalence.
