This is pretty lame.
Very lame. If you have to go shoot something at night with a laser sight, and it isn't hogs (which are invasive anyway, so who cares), it's very lame. There's no sport in that, and that's all this hunt was about.
I don't really care if people want to hunt exotic game or not (don't understand the fascination with it myself, but hey), but at least do it in a sporting manner.

Red List is the standard for international species. It makes sense that the USFWS would put less effort into species that aren't native to the US.

I'm not upset about it, it's just annoying
it's a good bit if he sticks to it. but it loses the effect when he slips out of character to complain about this or that
are there any novelty accts left on TD, or does everyone have such profound tds that it's no longer possible

The article is wrong. The argali sheep is not endangered in Mongolia. They are hunted on a strictly controlled basis. The hunts are very expensive, and the money raised goes into management and habitat protection.

This thread would be totally different if Hillary did this.

Yeah, we'd be talking about how a sheep committed suicide by shooting itself twice in the back of the head.

Interesting the article states their population from 2009 as having plummeted to 18,000. Would that be because the numbers are now higher?
Crazy how liberals have a problem with people doing legal things...

The whole stupid schtick, which is going simply because it has been going on for so long, involved the lack of the use of the word “I”.
Scruffy didn’t break that rule once in this thread.

And, yet, they allow for the importation of argali trophies from Mongolia.
USFWS stance (2002):
quote:
Service response.— The various published notices on the argali have repeatedly recognized the principle that carefully managed sport hunting programs are not necessarily detrimental to overall wildlife populations, and even have the potential to provide benefits under certain conditions. We do not find legal sport hunting to be a factor that currently threatens argali populations in Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, or Tajikistan; we believe it provides benefits.
And even this 2017 article from the service.

How Sport-Hunting Programs are Helping to Conserve Argali Sheep
However, you are correct that they are classified as threatened under the US ESA. So, I guess you win on that "gotcha!" to the one poster.

And I would question the accuracy of statement that the animal was shot at night. The “laser” scope is probably just a scary description of a common red dot scope.

So, after having gathered all of the information, it seems he killed an animal in Mongolia that isn't protected, and paid money to do it which helps with conservation efforts to actually endangered species.
What's the problem exactly? The only thing to really take issue with is that it may have been a night hunt.

People just need to mind their own business. It's a fricking legal hunt for a sheep. A sheep people.
