Dolittle’s Raiders

Watching a show on the Doolittle Raid LINK and can’t help but think given the softening of America along with the victim coddled mentality that we would have people pushing back against totally destroying the Japanese.
For a group of people who have come so far it’s amazing how “triggered” we are these days almost as if everyone is searching for something/anything to shout “that’s not fair”. Take the politics out of this because it’s everyone and just think about our society as a whole.
Just think about if Pear Harbor happened today, do you think there would be a similar response nationwide or would there push back toward being too harsh?
God Bless The Greatest Generation!

We were thought to be soft in WWI, WWII, and just about any other foreign war. The truth is, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. It’s an antiquated cliché, but still very true. There are still, and there will always be warriors ready to fight for a just cause. Don’t let CNN and Fox News fool you.

Would we be willing to fight? Absolutely, plenty of Americans would.
The real question is would the country support and get behind the war effort.
Could we ration gas? Sugar? Rubber?
Tough call.

The last surviving Raider, LTC Dick Cole, passed away last week at the age of 103.

Agree to a certain degree. But something has changed in our society. There are much fewer tough ones to get going. Decades of ridiculing patriotic expressions and elimination of teaching American Exceptionalism has reduced the amount of people willing to fight or sacrifice.
Look at 9/11. Within days of the attacks, one side of the political spectrum was already looking for reasons to blame the USA for provoking the attack. And have been muting criticism of the Islamic world ever since.

That’s what I mean, the buy in needed for a total war effort.

I wish I could say you were wrong, but.....

It's not a valid question, have you forgot we were attacked on 9\11? Men and women all over the nation joined the service afterwards and many lost their lives .

The casualties inflicting during that raid would be a Wednesday during the height of hostilities in any of the wars of the last few decades. You’re an idiot.

You act like people behaving like this is some new phenomenon. Social media just gives them a bigger voice than before. Idiots being “triggered” have always been around

So we get threads by people triggered about how easily triggered we are.

Colonel James Doolittle is my great, great uncle. Found out that one of my pledge brothers and I were like third cousins since James Doolittle was also his great, great uncle through a different branch of the family. That was a pretty cool connection.

Good point ,Ed.
Purpose of this post was to point out a total war movement which we haven’t seen since WWII would be interesting in today’s society. The raids were a context of the time to make my point not saying that event couldn’t happen again. Think big picture.
Good input all around. Anyways I’ll go back to being triggered about people being triggered

Maybe you werent around after 9/11, but there was no shortage of people enlisting.

I was around after 9/11 and I get the 9/11 comparisons and no doubt an attack would rally people but I’m thinking more along the lines of the long term commitment of a total war economy and government intervention in daily affairs.
Social Media plays a huge role in letting idiots speak their mind without question just wonder how much our climate would impede things that would need to happen.
Thankfully we don’t have to find out!

I think the last survivor died a week or so ago. Really sad. Hero's of their generation.

No need to be sad. My Grandfather was an A-26 pilot in WW2 and Korea, and he always talked about those guys like they were God's. Those who stayed in the USAF, after the war, had long fruitful careers, and all were never forgotten for their sacrifices.
