Beagle/Boston Terrier mix. She has been the sweetest dog. Kids have yanked her ears and tail and not even a sign she would ever snap. She is quiet, when playful she is full of energy. She does have cushions disease but is worth every penny of monthly medicine she requires to live a normal life. Also have a beagle, very loving dog that is full of energy and loves attention. He did not take so kindly to the time his ear was tugged. So I watch him more carefully around kids. He has never bitten one but has growled when a kid messed with him. Have turned into a fan of beagle breeds. He has had no health issues.

Always get/have had rescue mutts. Mutts are the best.
But sometimes when people ask me what breed they are, I make up names like:
Tennessee Blue Ridge Foxhound or Western Canadian Wolf Terrier.

Out of about 10 different breeds of dogs it's the Shetland Sheepdog and it isn't even really close.

I have owned many different breeds, including labs, german short hair pointers, cocker spaniel, etc...
Golden Retriever fits all the attributes of the OP.
Just got one a few months ago for my kids. Awesome pet.

Golden Retriever - German Shepherd mix.
I have had several great golden retrievers and a great yorkie, but this dog is the best. He is faithful, friendly, lovable, smart, obedient, energetic, will chill if you tell him to lie down, calm around kids, calm around new people, good in public places, doesn't fight other dogs, can fetch, and learns tricks easily. All in all he is a great dog.

Had Black Labs growing up and a Chocolate Lab after I got married. All great dogs with kids, only real issue is they have no clue how big and strong they are. I've been clipped by a running lab a few times and ended up on my back getting slobbered on.
Have a English Bulldog now. He's 10 months old and rotten. He's a chewer which is the biggest drawback, well that and his mustard gas farts. He's very loving and good with the kids but is the biggest pussy I've ever seen. He's scared of any inanimate object he's not familiar with.

I like labs

In terms of lack of health issues, obedience, child-friendly, or whatever other criteria you personally use.
I had a curr that fit all of those except the health issue. He liked to fight and kill snakes. He was on a hot streak until he ran into a 6 foot rattlesnake. He killed the snake, but it got him too.

Will never own another dog breed again, love my sheltie. However, I don't recommend it to anyone, unless you are dead set that the breed is right for you. Especially lazy people, it requires a lot of fur maintenance and exercise. Some can be a constant bark machine and they like to nip after people to herd them.

still a pretty dog, looks scary as hell... My fiancés' parents have a min pin
She certainly has a "look" to her that demonstrates she is aggressive and can strike fear into someone. She also has the teeth to back it up. But those that are around her know that she is a very well-behaved, mild-mannered dog that wants to play and have fun, while being very obedient.
I also have a Min-Pin as well. Going on 13 years. Had 2 others as well. Great, "yappy" dogs.

Keeshond - Fits all the criteria mentioned. Really nice with kids and family.

English Mastiff. Wonderful with kids and other dogs. Her size is intimidating but she's the most well behaved dog I've ever owned. We found out Monday she has spleen cancer. ABSOLUTELY SUCKS!

Spring of last year we got my daughter a Shih Tzu/Poodle mix. Looks just like this....
I figured I'd hate the dog but my little girl wanted him really bad so I gave in and got him for her. Turns out he's a great all around dog that's amazingly intelligent as well.
