You have to be a very strong, dominant owner. They are hard headed, like most bulldogs. But if you want a larger, athletic couch potato; they are great dogs. Pure breeds of any kind worry me, due to puppy mills and inbreeding.
That is 175% true. When you want them to chill out, they chill out. You want them to kill armadillos, they kill armadillos. You don't let them know what to do, they kill you or your neighbors. . I rescued a female pit bull mix recently that I think had been used as a bait dog ( scars, ground teeth) I brought her (and her one surviving pup) home and she has assimilated with the others like a champ. Have 7 people who want her. If I didn't think my husband would give me away, I would keep her. (I already have 4)

Doberman. By far the best breed I've owned.

I have had many dogs in my 45 years. Currently have an 8 year old Poodle that I was completely opposed to having 8 years ago because I always owned a lab or a bigger breed. My daughter had allergies so my wife persuaded me on the Poodle. He has been the best inside dog I have owned.
My neighbor has a Mountain Feist and it has the sweetest demeanor of any outside dog I have been around. She just roams the woods around our house all day treeing squirrels until our kids or myself go outside and then she just tags along happy as shite wherever we go. My next outside dog will be a Mountain Feist.

My boxer is AWESOME with kids and other animals... Not really trusty of strangers at first, but never overly threatening in a friendly situation

Boxers are the best breeds for families. It isn't rocket science to know why. Both breeds suffer from health issues, but it is worth it to own either one
I owned golden retrievers before my boxer
The only bad thing about owning a dog is the fact that they don't live forever

Hearty like a big dog, doesn´t shed. Can have skin problems. Good for smaller living quarters. Tremendous eyesight. Noisy at times. Very, very intelligent.
-American Cocker Spaniel
Wonderful temprament, loving, doesn´t shed. High strung, nervous, noisy at times. Intelligent.
-European Cocker Spaniel
Loving, doesn´t shed. Aggressive, domineering. Intelligent.
-Labrador Retriever
Wonderful, loving. Sheds like a motherfricker. Needs space.

German Shepherd / Black Lab mix
Handful as a pup (pretty destructive when it came to wooden and wicker lawn furniture) but is extremely intelligent, protective, loving, and playful in her younger days (used to chase me down and bite my ankles to knock me over and snag the ball when we would play football)
Could not imagine growing up without her.
my 8th grade religion teacher(former nun) told us not to bother saying special intentions for our dogs after a classmate's childhood family dog passed and tried to because she claimed "dogs don't have souls" "they break eye contact when you try to look them in the eyes for too long bc eyes are the windows to your soul ". My girl proves that condescending biotch wrong everyday. really is nothing like having that bond with your hound

German Shepherd. His name was King and he was our family dog. He caught acute pancreatitis and had to put him down. We all dug his grave, my sons put his food bowl full of food in with him and a toy to play with then we all covered him up. Long live the King.
