Right, but it still has to follow the basic ratios to be successful. They create off hand, but kinda not really when they have the "recipe" memorized.

I can follow recipes but with cooking I have more freedom to add or or take away s ingredients I don’t care for. Baking doesn’t allow much of that and I also get distracted and forget about it being in the oven.

Baking is easy. I just hate it because it has to be precise.
I hate following recipes.
Plus making your own bread/dough takes forever.

I’m the wife but I cook often —my daughter feels sorry for her fitness who have families that eat more take out than home cooked meals. My boys say I am a better cook than their grandmother (my mil). My husband pleads the fifth as I think he doesn’t want his kids to rat him out and tell his mom that he agrees with them.

she's not bad but i'm a way better cook which she agrees(she's better than she gives herself credit for). So I just 95% of the cooking

Sometimes. But she would rather I do it, and only does it because she knows we want a hot meal and I'm too tired. Our style is completely different. I grew up cooking cajun meals, gumbo, jambalaya, rice and gravy, spaghetti, chili. Her, more just chicken and pasta.

She's OK. She has about 3 things that she cooks that I really like. Simple but good. When she experiments with new recipes, usually meh or not good.
The point is I appreciate the effort she makes because I know it's not in her comfort zone. It comes natural to me, as I grew up with parents who constantly cooked and taught me how. I enjoy cooking on weekends. It's a chore during the week.

This is my situation to a T.
Thankfully now we have Uber Eats, Waitr and Postmates that can pick up just about anything we want when we are too tired to cook. Living in nola makes that a blessing and a curse

We use Waitr a lot. And spot on, blessing and a curse. Blessing for good eats quick. Curse when credit card bill arrives.
But her kids could live off of Chik Fil A or Canes every night. I can't handle that. Other than fast food, her kids like opposite foods, so almost impossible to fix anything they both like.

I went crazy last night and made raw veggies with store bought hummus and blue cheese dressing.

this is why i learned how to cook a few years ago
also, i make my own hummus occasionally. it's pretty easy. the problem is i can't eat anything with it when eating well

On the weekend I cook very elaborate and ethnic and deliberately step out of my comfort zone, week nights it’s usually salad, finger foods or breakfast for dinner.

she cooks and it is edible, but it isn't as good as my mom and grandma, but her mother is a terrible cook so she is learning.

I married a Cajun girl so my wife cooks and cooks well. I grow a big garden and can/freeze/dehydrate/lacto ferment a lot of vegetables. She does a great job of using what we grow in the garden.
