Does your indoor dog get lethargic in hot weather like he's outside?

My lab has been lying around in his climate controlled 72 degree environment as if he's being forced to lie outside in the shade.

My dog used to sit outside for hours but lately he stays out maybe 10-15 mins at a time and spends most of his time upstairs in one of the bedrooms.
When fall comes he will get back out there in his favorite spots.

Yep and I’m the same way.

Truth...Labs as well.
Although they may be mirroring their owner.
It's too damn hot and dry outside to worry about things outside until fall.

I've got a doodle and a aussie/lab mix. Both ask to go outside in the middle of the afternoon to go lay in the grass in the sun.
My husky who was mostly black used to do the same.

Not my frenchies. They can’t go outside in this heat though.

My lab is going through a false pregnancy so she's stealing door mats, towels, and pillows to make a den. She will go outside for 5 minutes then come back in to sit on her pile and growl at the other dog.

Shes 15 years old. Goes outside to pee and wastes no time to get back inside!

Our 16 year old does better on morning or afternoon hikes
Same as her owners

‘lil Charlie doesn’t mind being outside if we’re outside. But, in this heat she’ll schedule her potty visits for early am/late pm hours…

A friend of mine has a black lab, cool arse dog that I love, that had a full on heat stroke a few weeks back. He had been out for less than an hour and hadn't been running or playing too much (nothing out of the normal or different from any other time he's out), and he just passed out and had a seizure. Vet did all kinds of tests, gave him fluids, and kept him overnight. She came to the heat stroke conclusion. Now, he's limited on his outside adventures until it cools off.

My wife's dog is black and too dumb to figure out what shade is. If hes in the sun for about 5 minutes is fur gets so hot you can barely pet him.

Old English Sheepdog
In Oklahoma we've been above 100 for almost 3 weeks straight.
He goes outside around 5 am and stays out until around 10. Then he's inside for the rest of the day.
One thing for sure is that he knows how to identify shade. I figured that was just instinct, but it sounds like some dogs don't have it figured out.
Anywhere between 40 - 70 is his sweet spot. He'll stay outside all day and night when the temps are in that range.

I have two. Both with spend hours outside together the rest of the year, especially cool days with lots of sun. I can tell they get a little stir crazy and depressed if they experience several cold and cloudy winter days in a row where they don’t spend much time outside or in the sun.
It’s a different story in the heat of the summer. One ventures outside for her early morning pee, then barely moves until the afternoon.
The other spends all day going in and out. He wants to be lounging in the sun all day, but he’s had enough after about 5 minutes in this heat. Comes back inside to cool off, then back out.
Neither wants to come inside after the first major cool front of the Fall. We’ve left them outside most of the day before once the heat finally breaks, even when we’re not home.

Mine is 10 years old and fat. Lying around is what he does best. But he has told me that his favorite weather is 35 degrees and drizzling.

Not really lethargic. They like it outside even when this hot. But I limit them to 15 min or so. They come inside and go splat on the floor. I keep fans on for them even though the air is running.

Yeah and it gets more apparent and pronounced the older they get. Just like humans.

My 10 year old English bulldog sits in the sun panting her arse off. Does that for about 15 minutes and she's ready to go back in.
My two cats that have a Power Pet automatic door and can go in or out whenever they want, day or night, are pretty much napping all day and go out after dinner.
