I don't know the cost at the private schools today, but when I was a kid it was not all that bad in terms of the extra fees. I think when all was said and done my Dad probably shelled out about 250.00 for the football season and next to nothing for basketball...of course we sucked at basketball

There are also interesting options like track and field, I think that'll be neater than most uniform sports.

In football, basketball and the track part of track and field and to a lesser extent in soccer, but when it comes to baseball and hockey you can teach these kids to be good to pretty good players because there are skills needed that have to be developed like the hand eye coordination and technique for hitting , etc......I mean, look at John Kruk, I'm not sure you could ever classify him as an athlete and to his credit, he never claimed to be much of one but he had very god skills.

Now, put a very good athlete into the world of baseball and he separates himself like a Bo Jackson or a Jeter

My son was asked to tryout. We had him chose between travel or rec. He chose travel. Told him if he didn’t like it he could go back to rec next year. So far he likes it. We only practice twice a week and no more then two tournaments a month and no further then 100 miles. And no tournaments after June til the fall. No I don’t think my kid is a superstar. So far it’s been less drama, less politics, and less all around bullshite then rec ball. All in all, as a parent it has been a relief and I enjoy it!

My grandson plays just league ball, he's nine and his first year in kids pitch. He's a n average league kid no where close to getting on a travel ball team. Anyway he was struggling at the plate so my wife decides to bring him to one of these sports complexes where they do individual training. ... $45 for a half hour. I'm not an OT baller like all of you. Anyway my grandson starts knocking the cover off the ball, I guess from the training idk now my wife is bringing him twice a week. I never knew how much these prices where... damn

Both - we took the best 5-6 players from our community team, picked a few others from the league then had some try out.

Usually depends on the money and how serious the team is.

My son was invited to try out for a team in North DFW that cost $1,800 and plays 50-60 games per year.

I said no thanks for him

Even in the field events technique only takes you so far. Without speed you don't generate power, no matter how skilled or strong you are.

Need to get those hips more involved if he ever wants to hit with power

As a parent of a child who made it through travel ball tryouts. That's all, just wanted to brag.

Yea, at some small-arse school. When I figured out where I'd end up playing tennis in college I quit the sport.

If you are lucky, he might be able to play for Southern.

Clubs only. No league in travelball.

It’s now easy to get on a travel team as it’s beocme a business. If your kid is good enough for you to even wonder, just tryout you’ll make it.

My boy plays soccer, but we're thinking of taking a year off (if his club doesn't allow him to play up). He can't get on a Rec team now since it has already started, so I was just wondering. He hasn't played baseball since T, but he's a very fast kid and has very good dexterity. Just looking for alternatives if the club chooses to lose my boy rather than promote him.

Serious answer - depends on the team and organization. Depends also on returning roster. I or two openings it's usually a private workout. Bunch moving up or moving on they'll have a full-on cattle call.

It’s middle of the baseball season. If you really need advice, email me at laservet@gmail.com I’ll send you links to the tournaments and point you towards some teams.

At that age I'd be more impressed with outside the park HR's.

I live on the MS coast. I assume Gulfport would be the closest teams, maybe Slidell.
