Make her file a civil suit then take her to Judge Judy to arbitrate. Free all expenses paid trip to LA and a chance to get some face time on national syndicated television. Plus if the lady is a bitch Judge Judy will make her look a fool.
Could be your big break.
ETA: Plus, if you happen to lose, all monetary awards are provided from a fund the show has so you aren't out any money. It's a win-win.

yep. they will replace that bumper and panel along with the light. Had a similar thing happen to my car. Someone dinged me right where the light and quarter panel are. It was about 3k

frick. I guess I'll just pay the second quote
Posted on 9/23/14 at 9:33 am to Paige
I understand you being concerned with the price, it just came off as wanting to say "frick the cosmetic damage, I ain't fixing that."
Also, they are absolutely right about protecting yourself. Make sure the check is made out to her name, not to cash, and put a note in the memo line of something to the effect of "incident liability paid in full". having her sign a quick waiver isn't a bad idea either.
Have a great day!

do you have a body shop that you trust? Ask her if it's ok to get another quote from someone you trust.
And if you do pay the second quote, write the check to the body shop. You can also check in to see what work is done. It is a service you paid for and you have the right to check on the progress.

Everyone is forgetting all the other stuff she could get Paige with. Rental car, lost time at work, injuries, etc. But keep pushing the envelope on price
Paige is over the barrel and is in no position to be on the assertive.
I would request a third quote since the spread was so large and then offer the average of the three quotes, but one wrong move and she goes for it all.

Tell her you aren't comfortable and let your insurance handle it. My taillight cover was like 400 bucks when I backed into a pole. shite can add up really quick.

You would get a third quote and then pay the average of the three? Even if the third quote is 200 less than the second, the average of the three will be more than the second, which the woman seems to be okay with.
That's stupid.

if so set on doing this outside of insurance, then have to be ready for her to insist on the high bid or calling a lawyer. if the other party was really wanting to go that route, it is not an unreasonable tactic
i would never trust the other party in a situation like this until the consideration was cashed.

Wow, i wouldn't pay either.
The first quote is charging you $35/hour for paint SUPPLIES. She's charging you an hourly rate for supplies.
the 2nd quote
She's still charging you hourly for paint supplies. Again is stupid. Also, she's charging 4.1 hours to paint something that takes maybe 1 hours worth of labor.
Hazardous waste disposal???
$20 miscellaneous? Why $20
An honest estimate would probably be around $400.

Why are you paying if she was in your lane?
Exactly why I always get a police report.

Fred, I wouldn't do that. Then, if there is trouble with the repairs, she is going to come back to you to get with the shop to make it right. You can get nickel and dimed to death.
Paige should pay the 2nd estimate in full in return for a signed release from the other person, full and final, including ALL claims, not just property damage. Exchange the check for the signed release. Then, any issues with repairs, rentals, etc. is the other person's problems.

frick that. She needs to trust me. The old man will fix it and Paige will be out less than $500.00.
The release the other party signs at Walton's will get Paige out of anything else. If the other party doesn't want Paige to repair by what she is suggesting then tell the other party to report it to their insurance company.
Let me add that Paige is probably dealing with a dirty hippie with a kid that goes to: "The High School of The Performing Arts"

I just don't think it costs as much as her quote to do so
then recommend her a body shop that can do the work for cheaper. That's about all you can do.

Oh, I definitely agree with that, which is why I'd send her a check for the second amount. Trying to make her get another estimate would only aggravate her more, IMO, and dragging it out any further allows time for some pos to get in her ear and tell her what scams she's capable of running.
Again, I'd just pay the second amount. That price is somewhat fair for a replacement bumper plus light plus paint touch up. Just get it over with and close the door for any further action by her. As you say, the cashed check is Paige's proof that the other driver is okay with the amount.
