Does the ‘Unsubscribe’ button do anything but get you more junk email?

My outbox is full of Unsubscribe emails my phone generates when I click that option on spam emails...but they never stop coming. It’s almost like a read-receipt instead of an unsubscribe. They know it’s a monitored email, why TF would they stop sending them?
I guess I’ll just delete the shite mail from now on instead of scrolling down to click unsubscribe.

Almost every time ive scrolled to the bottom of spam and unsubscribed it actually worked
Although on google actual spam normally gets filtered anyway, so in my inbox im actually unsubscribing from more reputable companies

That used to be a thing years ago. You clicking “Unsubscribe” told the spammers it is an active account, and you got more junk. Seems like I don’t get spam anymore with Gmail.

Yes this works most of the time now
Otherwise those companies risk having their emails blacklisted for spamming people.
If you get blacklisted from Gmail you might as well forget about it if you are a legitimate business.

Look up the CAN SPAM Act and the monetary damages you can pursue if your unsubscribe requests aren’t handled timely.

It works. Recently took over an former colleague’s work email after he was let go. I couldn’t believe he was getting 50-60 spam emails a day. Each time one would pop-up, I’d unsubscribe. Virtually non-existent after a week or so.

Honestly haven't had this problem. I have had to unsubscribe more than once every once in a while. The key is to be diligent and unsubcribe to every single spam as soon as you get it. If you get in the habit it works.

I’m old AF and still using yahoo. I got my first name last name email address and I just use that account. I’ve set up business emails in Gmail, but I still just use yahoo. Ugh.

You can use unroll.me to “unsubscribe” all at once.
You give it access to your inbox and it filters mail from addresses you’ve “unsubscribed” from directly to junk.
Be careful what you unsubscribe from though. If it’s a sender you may need from time to time, you could “lose” emails forgetting you unsubscribed from them through the service.

I like how google lumps spam mail into “Promotions.” I just swipe Promotions to the left and I’m done.

No, it unsubscribes you.
If you get another one and are using G-Mail just "Mark as Spam" and it will alert their ESP and filter from your inbox.

I use the unsubscribe links for companies I know I gave my email.
I use the 'report spam' feature for all unsolicited and scam emails in the hopes they get blacklisted.

Yes...Especially those that require you to enter your email before submitting unsubscribe.

Gmail does a great job filtering out the trash.
It’s still amazing to me that junk email is a thing. If an email is so obviously junk that gmail can instantly see it, what retards are opening them?
