Does the TV clichéd "Wife pressures husband to stop being a Cop" occur often in real life?

Or is it just a trope?

"My kid just turned 2 and my wife wants me to leave or patrol and ask for a desk job."

....or quit outright

My mom made my dad quit his job as a cop so I'd say yes.

I mean, this was in the 1970's and he had been involved in some of the civil rights riots so it wasn't a joke but it does happen

Yeah, but it usually occurs because the cop has some side pussy afforded from the job.

Reed’s wife wasn’t going to show up at the awards banquet for cops. They had been going through a rough patch and she really wanted him to quit. Reed went without her. Malloy too it in stride - been there, done that! She showed up after the banquet started to support her husband.

For better or for worse.

Actually, my dad was NOPD when I was born. He stopped shortly after in part because my mom didn't want him to leave for work every day with the risk of never coming back. Although I do think that was pretty mutually agreed upon and not the stereotype of the wife giving an ultimatum.

My first wife didn't want me to be a cop. I was accepted to the JPD and the State Troopers. She said it would be too stressful on the family.

6 months after the divorce, she married a trooper.

My good friends dad was a Lt. at BRPD. On the night of his last shift, his guys handcuffed him to his desk and left him there for the entire shift. Said they were taking no chances.

Mine wanted me off of the road, yes. Either the bureau or the training department or something like that.

But it wasn't a tearful, sobbing event. She just didn't like the hours. But I was young and I think I got like a $.50/hour differential to work at night, plus I was an FTO which was another $.50/hour when I had a rookie and they always wanted a rookie on graveyard.

There was also an OIC differential which was like another $2.00/hour, but I rarely got to use it because of seniority.

It was fun while it lasted, but it's a young man's game. I went back to college, finished undergrad, did grad school, and I think we're all better off for it. I'd probably be under federal indictment dealing with these fricksticks on the street today.

I work with an ex-sheriff deputy. His colleague was killed serving a warrant and he quit not long after. Had several small kids at the time that are now grown.

The stress was all hers thinking you'd find out who she was banging the whole time if you worked with him.

My kids godmother loves being with a cop. They're still in that opening phase of their relationship so it's only taken buying her a fancy coffeemaker, fixing that fancy coffeemaker, and living that he makes her coffee as he's coming off 3rd shift and she's headed to teach.

Didn't take much though. Her mom died about 15 months ago, the prick she was married to; lost his GM job (major golf retailer), when her dad sent some of the life insurance policy to help them the prick gambled it away, he was caught sending dick pics to skanks, and within a week of her filing for divorce he moved to HER home state and made a big show of his whore (who is a huge trade down) During the Super Bowl last year. It's proof karma exists as she has (apparently) traded way up.

I've yet to hear one complaint about him or him being a LEO.

I dunno the answer to your question. but, in high school I told my mom I wanted to be a cop (I had aspirations of working for an fbi crime lab/detective). she vehemently talked me out of that, with tears in her eyes doing so.
