Kinda like labeling an enormous area of a country the "south"

The US 59 corridor is south. Most of Texas is not.

Anything east of Dallas or Houston has a southern feel. The rest belongs to the American Southwest. Draw a boundary line about 30 miles east of I-45.

Sure I'll change it to I-45 being the dividing line. I was using I-35 is a general sense. Anything along the 35 corridor is the West.
I wanted to skip over College Station. I'm not sure how to classify the weirdos in College Station.

The gulf west, or northern Mexico

It's the biggest freaking state in contiguous US and spans from deep south/coastal to west to lower Midwest so if course it's a mix. And has its own weird "culture" that doesn't fit any of those regions. See, e.g., the rampant closet homosexuality in College Station.

What does the question even mean? WTF kind of loser ponders this question?
Texas certainly isn't east or west or north. . . OP should find a tall building.
If he's asking about the mentality in Texas, I'm in Fort Worth. We have modern $#!t but also have police officers walking around on horseback commonly. We have guys that still hold the door open for their girlfriends, wife and moms. It's not every guy, but it's also not rare. A lot of us still have southern accents.

Mesquite trees, roadrunners, prickly pears, etc etc....

Chivalry: only found in fort Worth.

Nope. My 2x Great Grandad fought and was wounded in the Battle of Mansfield to keep Texas from becoming a part of the Civil War, i.e., out of The South. Would diminish his and hundreds/thousands of others sacrifices to call Texas a Southern State.
ETA: Less than 2 miles from the land Great Great Grandad bought after the war: Last remaining international Boundary Marker in Continental USA

You’re frickin retarded.
You have no clue what ‘Southern’ would entail if you don’t think West Texas is ‘Western’

Settle down. It’s not that serious.

No. Texas, much like California, is its own, unique thing.

East Texas is definitely the South
Central Texas is Oklahoma
West Texas is New Mexico.

I live here and except for the summer heat don't consider it "south". Texas is what it is, we don't need a stupid direction to help define us. In fact, we are probably the center and everywhere else revolves around us.
