Does the OT consider Texas the South? I'll hang up and listen.

Most of east Texas outside of the major cities is pretty Southern. The rest of it isn't.

Texas is too big to be labeled in one category. If you’re in the south east part, sure they’re southern. If you’re in west Texas, not so much. North Texas is probably a bit more mid-west.

East of I-35 yes they are the southern. Houston, Piney Woods, Beaumont, Tyler, Longview etc.
Along the I-35 corridor, No that is the beginning of the West/Southwest. DFW, Austin, Waco, San Antonio, Lubbock, etc.
The Rio Grande Valley is Mexicans who are proud to be Americans and they are definitely more Western.

IMO Texas in "in the South" but not "Southern" if that makes any sense
ETA: Kind of how I feel about south LA too

East Texas is probably the only part that would be "the South". West Texas is Western, the Panhandle is actually more Midwestern, and South Texas resembles what Mexico could be if it ever cleaned up its act.

Historically yes.
Culturally split between south and southwest.

The southern parts, yes.

The rule of thumb for Texas used to be if the courthouse square had a confederate soldier, it was the South. That has probably changed.

Highland Park is the south. The rest of Dallas isn’t

Are you sure you don't mean I-45 (basically line between Houston and Dallas?) San Antonio, Austin, Dallas are all ON I-35

maybe geographically, demographically not so much, similar to just about anything Orlando and south in FL is definitely not the "south"
