No, per a report yesterday NOLA just lets them die and then tries to hide the numbers

Also the whole "homeless have rights to do whatever in public places" rulings hurt cities wanting to do anything.
Yesterday I heard one of the major cities up in collin county (plano/frisco/mckinney) has an issue with homeless shanty camps around their library. Of course the news interviews a homeless guy to hear his pity party story about how mean the city is being. BUT of course the city is saying during open hours you are free to hang out all you want. Smfh.

If you're homeless in New Orleans, you pretty much choose to be. There is enough help that is offered. It's either that they are schizo or drugheads/drunks. The drugheads/drunks don't want to follow any rules that shelters and places like that have. You can only help a person if they want the help. They do sweeps under the bridge a few times a year where everything has to be moved or it's tossed when they clean the area out, but eventually people return. They take turns in different spots.

Just wait for the weather to get hot. Then the annual migration of the homeless from cities like Miami, New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, etc back to cities like Chicago, Detroit, Denver, etc will begin.

Have you ever visited a major city (which New Orleans isn't even a major city)? Every city has homeless.

Well the only thing Mitch did that was decent was kick the homeless out from under the overpasses; however, they just trickled back...

I saw a concert for homeless people last time I went to Austin. I'd assume all of the chairs and audio equipment were stolen.
Another problem with the homeless, is that people assume that they have mental issues, feel sorry for them, and refuse to do anything about it. A very large percentage of them are perfectly fine, but just don't feel like living like a civilized human being.
I had a buddy down here from Boston, and he was taken back by the amount of people laying around the sidewalk/street. Along with the food, the booze, the quarter, the river, and the scenery, one of the first things he tells people about is how dirty and how many homeless people are in the city. After visiting any city for the first time, there are certain things that you remember. Homeless people is his memory for New Orleans

False premise. There are things that can be done to strongly discourage homeless shanty towns from popping up in obvious places, and ubiquitous homeless on the streets. There are cities that at least try. There are cities that just don’t. New Orleans is one that maybe doesn’t try real hard.
This would likely be handled by the police? NOPD is still very understaffed to handle their current duties I believe.

The city does what it can, eventually, when you live in those situations, you're going to die of something. I work at Touro, you should see the homeless that kick back in private hospital rooms on your tax dollar...
The city can only do so much..

Dallas is a better home for the homeless than Fort Worth. . . Mostly because I live and work in Fort Worth. And I hate Dallas.

This isn’t exclusive to New Orleans. I find that the homeless populations are higher in cities that are liberal. I don’t know if there’s a REAL correlation, or if I just tend to visit those cities more on vacations.
I’ve noticed a growing issue in Denver and Austin specifically. I go to those places once or twice a year and spend lots of time downtown. You could argue that the homeless population grows as does the population of the city.
I mean, Austin proper is approaching a million people. It’s no wonder there is an increase in homeless.
