We have a 5 second rule at our house... That applies at how long it takes our lab to bolt across the room to get to it.

If lab is outside we got like a 15 second rule...

Depends on where you drop it. In the grass.. No. On a clean floor, sure.. Either way, my daddy used to tell me that's how you keep from getting sick.. I didn't understand it as a kid, but I think he meant that exposing your body to some extra germs will only make your immune system stronger.

I’ll push the 5 second rule to 10 or so sometimes. I don’t give a shite about eating dropped food. But the food has to looks clean to the naked eye so I can mentally eat it. But if you drop a moist piece of ham and it has lent and dirt and shite all over it I’m not eating that.

If I'm in my own house, I pick it up and eat it no matter what dropped on the floor.

If I’m camping I can drop food on a tree branch and consider it good. In the house if it picks up a grain of dirt it’s filthy.

Speaking of camping. I remember being a kid and getting hurt. My Dad being the quick thinker he was poured some beer on it to irrigate it. He said it was cleaner than the water.
