All things being equal, that kind of shite is INFINITELY better than the Alex Jones versus Rachal Maddow style death matches that take place between the edges of idiots on my list...

At this point, I'd love if all that ever came up in my feed was pictures of fricking meals some chick I went to junior high with ordered at some shitty restaurant.

They've called it democratizing information, but when everyone can report the news it's a lot more like anarchy than democracy. I think the biggest problem is we aren't seeking this out, we are being force fed.

Does it need to die? Probably. Will it die? No, there's too much money to be made by monopolizing our time and outrage.

Free speech in general needs a timeout. It seemed like a great idea before we found out how stupid everyone is.

Truth. Free speech was intended for those who know how to speak intelligently and are capable of stringing together a sentence in common English. Boy have times have changed.

Probably. But these groups are snuffing out free speech.

I would argue that the older generations are the ones that have ruined social media and have the most disruptive users

You've got access to anything you want, you choose to waste your time on Facebook.

No, just people who let it control/dictate their lives in any way close to a significant amount.

For the vocal minority, It's just a platform for unintelligent/misinformed/emotionally unstable people to yell at each other.

Sane, educated folks like myself don't give a frick. I use it to see pics of family/friends and connect with hot womenz.

Nah. It helps me keep in touch with friends, especially those from the Army that are spread all over the globe. Same with family.

I also have good political conversations with friends of mine who are on different sides of the political spectrum from me.

However the minute one of them (on either side) goes shrieking tard, they get blocked. I've probably had to block an equal number on both sides, but it's still a very small number.

No more so than alcohol or weed or porn or even the general pursuit of leisure need to die.

But we do need to find a way to use it more responsibly. Outright prohibition never works though.

Social media is just the messenger here.

For the first time in history, we're actually able to see rather than assume just how dumb, narcissistic, petty, and reactionary the average person is. If you don't have anything invested in it, it's actually pretty interesting to watch.
