Does it cost more to cool down 1 degree if it’s colder?

Hypothetically, does cooling from 84-83 cost the same or more or less than cooling from 70-69?

Heat transfer occurs faster at a greater temperature delta between the two heat sources.
With a 42 degree evaporator coil surface temp heat (BTUs) from the 84 degree air will flow into the refrigerant faster then from the 70 degree air.
Also how it works with the condenser coil outside. The hotter it is outside the more the u it needs to work to reject heat.
Another factor is sensible heat vs latent heat. Your DX unit will. Have both a latent heat and sensible heat capacity. Sensible heat is just air temp change. Patient heat is temperature and moisture content change. It takes more energy to remove moisture content from the air.

This is why I keep my house at 70 during the day then turn it down to 60 in the evening. Could you even imagine cooling your house from 80 to 60 in the evening. Would cost a fortune.

It all depends on the humidity level. AC works by removing humidity
