When NO canceled, I'm pretty sure it doomed BR's.
My first thought on hearing that was how that's going to massively increase attendance at the BR parade.
I think the BR parade goes forward as long as no cases are diagnosed here.

My buddy works for the LAGOP and was told last night to expect it to be cancelled soon

How does Pat make money off the parade?
Posted on 3/11/20 at 8:21 am to LSUvegasbombed
Hell no.
Anyone with just a little bit of sense should see that only the old and infirm are in any danger what so ever. Tell your granny to stay home. The rest of the world wants to party.

What sucks is all the bars are still going to have their events. They might lose money on the whole deal if the parade is canceled.

Had a buddy buy 15 wristbands for Uncle Earls party after the parade at $30 a pop. I wonder if they will still host their event without the parade

I normally go, but my whole group of friends is sitting this year out and the friend's house on the route where we normally go is not hosting a party.
You need new friends.

Parade entry is somewhere around $2,000/ float, corporate float entries are double the regular entry, corporate sponsors, merchandise sales etc. The city covers police and clean up. The parade group pays for insurance, some towards police over time, insurance and a few other misc things. His family runs the thing so his overhead is low.

Figured it was doomed when Nola canceled.
Put BR in a no win situation.

I will be SHOCKED if SWB doesn't cancel it.
1. For all intents and purposes this is a "white peoples" parade as the route takes it through primarily white neighborhoods. Thus, SWB and her crew don't really care whether or not it actually goes.
2. Once the NOLA mayor cancelled theirs it is just a matter of time due to the domino effect of panic. No city leader wants to be the only one who goes against the tide. LA just recently got it's first case of Corona virus a within the last few days. None have been confirmed in BR, but I suspect that is coming soon (probably today) as there are bozos out there wanting to become sympathetic "victims" desperately hoping they will be the one infected (example - my wife's liberal nutjob business partner stayed home from work two weeks ago, before anything was confirmed in the US, because someone in his family was exhibiting "corona-like symptoms").
Once the first person in the BR area has it OR says they have come in contact with someone who has it (and it will probably happen very soon) SWB is going to use that as her "cover" to cancel the parade. It's a shame we can't just let people decide on their own whether or not to attend a "potentially hazardous" event, but that is the world we live in today.

Floats costs 2500-5500 to enter the parade.
Posted on 3/11/20 at 9:20 am to Triggerr
Parade group does not pay for insurance anymore, starting this year. Cost entrants an additional 350-750$
They passed that cost onto us this year, more profit

I am holding off on purchasing my throws until tomorrow just in case this shite does get cancelled
Posted on 3/11/20 at 9:22 am to LSUvegasbombed
It needs a confirmed Baton Rouge case I think. If that happens in the next day or so it is cancelled for sure

Do the Shingletons put the profits in their pockets or use it for donations to other charities?

I was about to post this yesterday, but figured I'd give it a day or so. I'm saying 50/50 at this point.
