Bingo.

And also what is a reason that they shouldn't profit off of the parade? Do yall think parades just happen? No. A shite load of work goes into it. They work almost all year on the parade. The morning of the parade go find anyone in the Shingleton family or their circle - they're working. They put on one of if not the most fun days in Baton Rouge every year. Some of yall are just miserable people.

ETA:
A lot of bad info on this thread. Yall really think there's no charity element to the parade? Come on.

Yall really the parade group doesnt have to have insurance?

You have a float with a hundred drunk people on it being driven by someone who might be drunk as well driving through a crowd of drunk people.... you dont want insurance on your float? You want the parade group to be liable for your drunk arse? Give me a break.

Dipshit probably will, because having a group of people outside in the open air will be bad, but forcing them all inside into bars and restaurants with central air will be better to contain a virus.

They have insurance but required ALL floats to acquire a rider on their insurance policy for that day.

Really? What do they really have to work on for the parade? Don't have to make floats. Don't have to plan a ball. Route is same every year. Don't have to design throws.

As someone who has had a float in the parade for over 15 years they do work theirs asses off. Trying to coordinate 60-75 units (floats/bands/walkers/etc) its very time consuming. They start taking applications around Thanksgiving and don’t finish paper work until the day before. Making sure everyone’s float is compliant and safe for the route, insurance requirements, etc

Either way even if it were easy they own the parade And do the leg work. They deserve to be compensated and the ppl that pay to enter and ride don’t care.

Here. Let me help y'all.

If you enjoy the parade and think it is OK for someone to profit. Ride in or go watch the parade.

If you are a miserable frick who doesn't approve of the current situation. Stay home, we don't want you there anyway.

Even if they did absolutely nothing to help out with the parade and just collected a check, who cares?

Make your own parade if you have such an issue with it

This is pretty naive but the fact that you think something of that scale would be so easy really speaks to how well they run the parade. I'm not in their family or affiliated with the parade but I am close friends with them and see the work they put in every year.

The bureaucracy involved in any city, especially this one, when it comes to allocating resources, shutting streets down, crowd control, safety, etc makes things a lot more complicated than just picking up the phone and saying "hey the thing we did last year? Same thing this year. Great. See you on parade day".

There's a lot of accounting. Theres receivables, payables, theres finding and coordinating with sponsors. Theres the charitable side of it. Theres the insurance side which is always changing. Theres coordination of bands, riders, drivers, etc. Theres contingency plans in the event something goes wrong. And shite goes wrong. And when it does theres new plans next year to try and make sure it doesnt happen again. Theres litigation - people try and throw frivolous lawsuits at them all the time.

Again, the fact that you or anyone thinks theres not a lot of work involved should be a huge compliment to the quality of work they do in putting on the parade.

1. For all intents and purposes this is a "white peoples" parade as the route takes it through primarily white neighborhoods. Thus, SWB and her crew don't really care whether or not it actually goes.

Being a parade organizer is as hard as being a teacher! These knuckleheads should show some respect and thank parade organizers for their service
