Does anyone take issue with L.E.O.s being revenue generators?

I get there needs to be rules and citations. It just seems that many departments place emphasis on getting the most tickets and getting more revenue.
Standing in the roads to check brake tags and belts, speed traps, all of that doesn't really seem to be protecting and serving.

Unless Speedy can articulate a good argument for it, I am against it.

I think that it creates perverse incentives that cause law enforcement to act in a manner that doesn't support what their actual mission should be. But I do also see the place for fines as a punitive measure. Pretty much exactly what you said just in different words.

Personally, I do not have a big problem with it. Laws need to be enforced and issuing citations is how it is done. Blah blah blah

Police departments need revenue. One way or another it must be collected. If not from citations then from taxes. I just as soon have law breakers fund police versus law a biding citizens. As long as departments are not spending money on lavish items, citation revenue is alright with me.

In one Colorado town (flush with tax income from fairly wealthy citizens) donates all citation money to some charitable local organization.

Would you prefer higher taxes to support multiple pensions for govt employees?

Then why are they always asking us for tax hikes and calling us during Wheel of Fortune for donations?

I have no problem with fines being imposed for violators. However the income should not go to the police departments or local governments. All revenue from fines should go to Black Lives Matter. And any funds for LEOs, etc should come from income tax increases on the top 1%.

Yes, departments who write tickets to justify their existence need to disband. Departments in the middle of bumfrick nowhere.

However, NOPD, BRPD, LSP certainly aren’t making any significant portion of their budget off of tickets. If you get pulled over it’s likely by a dedicated traffic unit or you somehow really pissed off a patrol cop.

I said this in another thread, but LSUPD actually loses money for every ticket they write. They don’t get a single dollar back.

While it pisses me off, every time I've been given a ticket, I was in the wrong. I never felt like there was an injustice.

Now, civil forfeiture , where a law abiding American has assets taken away only on a "suspicion" , that's bull shite .

Take their crime scene tape and try and wrap them up in it so we can easily spot them.

Unless you're on a long trip, speeding is pretty stupid. I love some idiot blowing by me at 75 on a state highway. A mile later I'm right behind him while he tailgates the next guy going the speed limit looking for a place to pass.

It is an issue of concern, for anybody who enjoys common sense and thinking.

Yes, there used to be something in the laws that would prohibit a town from deriving over a certain percentage of its revenue from traffic citations, but strangely enough, that rule no longer exists. I travel a lot for work and can honestly say that Louisiana is the worst state I have ever seen for speed traps. I say that if a town does not have a robust enough economy to pay their law enforcement officers, then maybe they shouldn't have a department.
