It’s hard to support the Blue when their No1 priority is to be tax collectors.

Thanks for reminding me, I need to update my expired registration and go get my new brake tag where you can pay more $$ for them not to inspect for “safety" for two years.

Completely agree.

I think another important distinction is the difference between speed traps and traffic enforcement. Krotz Springs is a speed trap. BRPD clocking you doing 90 down I-10 is not a speed trap.

I live in Rayne and the PD here is getting terrible about it. They sit on the interstate every morning. I think that a municipality that uses the interstate as a revenue stream should be responsible for the maintenance of that stretch. Cut the grass, pick up trash.

I think at some point you get diminishing returns if the cops ruin the reputation of a small town then people don't stop for gas or lunch or spending money on whatever.

Without ticket revenue to fund things like courts and DAs we'd have to pay more taxes to make up the difference

Both are still armed robbery.

We should get rid of 90% of the local city police departments and let the Sheriff's take over

Civil asset forfeiture needs to go away.

They've gotten me and my wife at the same stop sign in our neighborhood for not coming to a complete stop. I did everything but rock back. $340 for both tickets. That's complete bs and certainly very different from blowing through the stop sign.

The true purpose of the police is property protection.

This is not today’s mission of “enforcing the law” and getting compensated for their ability to coersively redirect your behavior according to laws which generally have nothing to do with protecting property. Just armed fund raising.

Yeah, I know that the math isn't right in that scenario. As smart as you are, I think you get the point, though.

The real obscenity is the focus on drug war profiteering while ignoring burglaries and vehicle break-ins. I have located my own stuff in pawn shops while the LEO's couldn't be bothered to look.

And am I the only one bothered by the fact that every Louisiana Sheriff retires with millions in assets?

I take huge exception. Thursday I was going to lunch with a friend and passed an area with a hospital. There had to be at least 10-12 biker cops laying in wait in different spots. And on the street corner was their spotter sitting in a camp chair calling out which cars to pull over. Such a disgraceful scam operation!

it's not that...it should be assumed I'm following the law unless otherwise noted.a vehicle is an extension of your home,so random checkpoint stops are borderline harassment in my opinion.
