FYI, a classroom expansion at WHS was recently completed. So, more classrooms for fewer students? Don't you just love government decision making?

Until you posted I didn’t know WHS had a lower population. Then I remembered their new addition.

On the other hand why are SG officials bitching about no school improvements in St. George area schools??

I don’t know. There are only give schools, and maybe the older ones are getting neglected???[

quote]A simple, "We tentatively plan on developing our own advanced class programs for a college preparatory curriculum..." would be great for parents of SG students to hear.[/quote]

I’d recommend that they say that. Public relations isn’t their strong suit.

I have not found any SG official saying whether or not the new St. George school district will offer Gifted, Talented or Magnet programs any where in the new proposed district. I wonder why not??
Because St. George is not yet a school district with a dedicated school board. Why would they comment on something they can’t legally guarantee?

Who would even make that kind of guarantee with no appointed interim board or elected board yet? The city is separate.

People pushing for the district have no guarantees they will be elected to board or hired in any capacity to make decisions.

You're forgetting the St. George mayor has already promised a tax cut if the new school district passes.

quote:

The proposed St. George school district, if approved by voters on May 16, would have so much money when it opens that it will be able to give residents an immediate tax break, said Mayor Dustin Yates.

“You heard that right. Better schools, local control, lower taxes,” Yates told reporters Monday.

The Advocate - April 21, 2026

So, the SG mayor, who can't speak for the new school district, according to you ("the district have no guarantees) is promising school taxes will be cut.

But he can't speak on school programs that may be offered to deliver his "better schools" promise??

Weak sauce...

What’s the confusion? Do you want the Mayor acting as a school Superintendent??

quote:

If EBR built new schools in that area would parents there pull their kids out of private schools in such large numbers to populate the new schools?

I actually think a good bit will, not immediately but in due time. You’d be surprised how many families are struggling just to get their kids through private school. They’d rather eat ramen noodles every day for lunch than send their kids to EBRPSS.

Who the hell do you think you're fooling. You've been against anything dealing with St. George from when it was first mentioned.

Stop being uninformed..

He already has been speaking on behalf of the new school district. "Better schools...lower taxes."

See his speech which I previously quoted a few posts above.

It’s obvious that the OP wasn’t genuine and just an opening for him to keep going negative.

Okay, so you can't answer the questions I asked in the OP. just like the other low information (as Rush used to describe such persons) posters in this thread.

I understand.

I want to thank you for convincing me to vote NO on the SG school district.

I felt all along that the status quo was what you wanted.

Yes, he’s trying to sell it. What’s the issue? He’s speaking on taxes, not guaranteeing there will be a magnet program in the new district.

magnet program in the new district.

I just looked at what magnet schools are in EBRSS, and what isnt a magnet.
Magnet High schools include
McKinley
Scotlandville
Woodlawn
Glen oaks
Istrouma

I saw one mentioned needing 2.5 GPA.

Does that empty lot off seigan and I10 still have a vagrant problem? If it gets handed to StG schools maybe they won’t sit on it.

Also, does anyone know what property EBRSS owns off highland between Airline and I10?

Magnet schools were established in EBRP to keep and attract high performing students from white flighting out to private schools and Livingston/Ascension. If St George establishes their own system, they can establish their own magnet schools. No reason for me to pay to educate people in the breakaway district. Enjoy Weedlawn.

The best I can tell is the SG administration with the help of the Shetiff really cleaned up the vagrant problem along Siegen. I pass there regularly and hardly ever see a beggar.

The neighborhood behind it must be happier. Several years ago a poster lived there and uploaded some pics from just over his fence. It was ridiculous the parish let that go on for so long.

Woodlawn is one of the magnet schools along with Scotlandville, McKinney, and others. Magnet doesn’t appear to means the same as it used to mean. It’s been EBRSS’d.
quote:

Program Eligibility
Grades: A cumulative 2.50 grade point average (GPA) based on the last four (4) consecutive semesters
Test scores: Perform on a level of Basic or above on LEAP 2025 or the equivalent on a norm-referenced assessment in both ELA and math

Also StG has been paying more than fair share over the past decade and getting little in return. When they leave you will be stuck with EBRSS going down even more without that extra money or you will be paying more in taxes with it still probably going down.

If not this vote then they will try again until they succeed StG Community Schools knows they will be Better Apart.

Dallas, I would think that in Texas it’s not unusual for ISDs to form by breaking off from a larger ISD. Am I wrong?

You’d think what SG is attempting to do is unheard of, impossible, dangerous. I’m thinking it’s part of the American way.
