Oil is cheap, an engine isn’t.
But your mileage may vary depending on a number of factors, Highway vs City Driving, type of oil and filter, and your engine manufacturer. Some manufacturers make huge piles of crap as cars or trucks while others are just built better by better assembly lines. Scotty Kilmer says to stay away from the cars or trucks assembled in Mexico.

another question , is there a time constraint last couple oil changes , it took over 2 years to put 5000 miles on my truck , should i change it every year ?

I get nervous going over 3000 miles between oil changes. I’d never go 20,000 miles without one.

To me oil and filters are so cheap. Especially if you DIY that it's better to stay around 5-7k.
Most Synthetic oils WILL maintain viscosity well after they are "bad". It's just they are burnt and the detergents and additives are gone and it's usually tar black.
I would be skeptical of the 20k oil. Though I know mechanics who swear by changing the filter and just topping off every 5k and changing the oil every 10k.

Yes. Regardless of mileage you should change it once a year. It degrades. Most say 2x per year. Before synthetics became a thing, it was 3,000 or 3 months. Whichever came first. I think with full synthetics, a year would be acceptable.

This was years ago but I was saving maybe $12 by doing it myself.
That being said, I had a 97 Ford Ranger with about 240K miles that I changed the oil since I bought it in 2001. In 2012, I did my oil change and was in a rush because it was about to rain and ended up double sealing the new filter. Never noticed a leak and my oil pressure gauge stopped working a few years prior.
Ever since, I refuse to change my own oil.

The worst or most inexperienced mechanics do oil changes. You really think they all check to see if the gasket wasn’t left on when taking off the old? I bet you won’t make that mistake again. They will.

5k intervals on all of my vehicles, especially my wife’s Expy with Ecoboost. Heard too many stories of some folks going 10k between fluid changes and messing up cam phasers/timing chain on the Ecoboost engines. True or false doesn’t matter to me I just don’t care to chance it as it is cheap insurance.

Been going 10k miles on synthetic since I bought it and I’m up to 160K miles without any issues. I could probably push it further but figured 10K is enough.

I sent off my last oil change for analysis. 2018 Tacoma, Mobil-1 0w-20 at 15,519 miles with Toyota filter currently at 70,000 miles on the odometer and this is what they had to say:
"This 15,519-mile interval wasn't more than this Tacoma could handle. Metals increased a bit, but that's to be expected after giving them more time to accumulate. These levels are still perfectly fine for this interval, which suggests all is well with wearing parts. There isn't any harmful contamination to worry about, and the oil maintained the correct viscosity for 0W/20. Insolubles are low, so oil filtration isn't having any trouble. There's still additive left to run longer (see the 3.0 TBN). Nice report! Try about 17,000 miles next time and check back for another look."
From this point forward, I'll probably change it every 10-15,000 miles.

I have, you just need to check your levels every 4k miles and top off according, especially if it’s a German car as they love to burn oil, specifically during the break-in period. I would not recommend it on a turbo car, turbos need fresh oil for their longevity.

I do it between 7,500 and 10,000 miles. I have heard it could be stretched up to 15,000 ,and in this case 20,000 ,but that surpasses my comfort level.

10k or one year on synthetic. The manual says 10k and I figure the Toyota engineers know more about it than I do.

Doing 10K now that it's a lot of hwy miles as opposed to stop & go.

I do 5k on the Mini because it's a Mini and it will die of death.
I do once a year on the Jeep because why not. Rarely gets driven. But 50 bucks a year ain't killing me.
The Honda Oddy, about 7500 and I also drain and fill the trans fluid because Honda Oddy trans.
Cheap insurance.

Oil no. Filter yes.
At 10k I drain the mobil1 0w40 and refilled.
At the next 10k, I drain and do a filter change.
Most of my time is spent in the higher rev ranges.
290k on the clock. Runs great.

No. Filters don't last that long

No, I change mine every 5k.
