I go about every 7500 in my Silverado with synthetic blend

I went 10000 miles once b/c the oil said it was good. My truck ran like shite so I do 5000 now regardless.

Changing oil is for you poors. I just get a new vehicle every year.
My Grandfather, the cheapest man in the world, buys a new car whenever it's time for new tires. He explained his rational, I'm still not sure if he's finally lost it or is a genius.

They can fully go 20K before beginning to break down and can handle heat much higher than those oils if you get any big name brand such as Mobil 1, Amsoil, Motul, etc.
Not just heat but mechanical shearing which is also a bigger issue in modern engines. I use name brand full synthetics and OEM filters in my vehicles and still do 5k OCI's. I also use 5W30 - 10W30 instead of 5W20.

I have done 15k drains and the UOA said I had 2-3k left. Most of my cars get yearly drains since they don't go over 10K a year. My travel car which gets 30-40k a year gets oil changes at somewhere between 10k and 15k just based on convenience. I have not used a "20K" oil but could see it working in the right engines and with the right duty cycle.

I had a 2006 Camry that I changed every 15,000 miles up to 170,000 miles. The guy I sold it to is up to 280,000. I've been doing long interval changes since I got a sales job involving driving about 35k miles/yr. That was 1990 and 4 or 5 cars ago. I'm not changing my oil every month. Mobil1 has not let me down, no engine problems. Currently I have a 2020 Honda Pilot. I have about 15,000 miles on the oil. I'm going to send in a sample to see what they say. The container from Mobil1 said 20,000 miles and I trust them.

A lot of tribologists and metallurgists in this thread.
At least the guy above understands shear.

oil is the lifeblood of an internal combustion engine, why would you go the cheapskate route on something like this?

Disregard the manual and the vehicles indicator.
Do it every 4-5k even with synthetics.
Hurts nothing to do that.

I go 10k so just once a year.

Seriously. And no mention of the trash combustion products left behind in the oil making it dirty. Change your oil people. I realize every dealership now wants 200 bucks for an oil change but buy some oil and a filter and change it at home. It is possible to do it with out being like the Exxon Valdez.

I still use conventional oil(older pickup) and change every 5K, which equals to twice a year.
My wife's aunt changes her oil in all four of her vehicles every 1,500 miles. She's definitely got the money to do it.

blinker fluids?
I know I’m pushing my luck, but I never change my blinker fluid.
Hasn’t failed me yet and I think it’s out…

That sounds like a terrible idea.

I’m not a fan of these extended drain intervals.
There are lots of newer vehicles that don’t tolerate long oil change intervals very well.
You can get a darn good synthetic blended by Warren (Costco, super tech, Amazon basics) and change it every 5k for pretty cheap.
Between small oil passages and cam phasers in newer cars I just don’t see the small savings being worth the risk.

I started changing my own because Mrs Gee kept looking at the sticker for the 3k miles and demanded an oil change.
Follow up question for those that do it themselves. How much money are we actually saving? Both my GMCs require 8 quarts.

I don’t do it to save money. I do it because it’s important to be done right. You’re not talking about a push mower that’s valued at $100 oil change.

Full synthetic always at 10k
I’ve averaged 50k miles per year for the past several decades, zero engine issues over that time related to lubrication.
Full-sized domestic vehicles.
