Baby boomers ? Why do they call Millenials lazy and unwilling to learn when half of them can’t even work basic functions of outlook or excel ?

That's why we hire people to do that for us.

its not just baby boomers or millenials. I have drivers of all age groups that can't operate a basic tablet in order to do their electronic log books. It is more of a product of wanting to learn something and understanding that doing it is part of your job.

Worse. I work with IT people who apparently have no interest in learning how to do their jobs, so others are forced to pick up the slack. And I'm about done with that.

That's all I work with.

Im the youngest by 20+ years.

Every single one of them acts like the computer picks on them or something when they cannot operate basic functions like passwords. It's frustrating because I have to bail them out.

ETA: The worst is when a program such as Excel/Word, etc does an update to the program and the interface changes or some features change. Windows 10 is a good example.

I hate this so much. They bitch that these youngins dont work hard enough, but it takes them 3 hours to do what it takes a millennial 15 min to do on a computer.

My first year teaching, my mentor teacher was a dinosaur. She would ask me to "turn it on" for her when she had to put in grades. Turn it on meant turn on the computer, log in to her grade book, set up her grades and enter them. I was given a second planning period to do this for a bunch of the old teachers on campus.

Outlook and excel are alien technology for a guy I work with. He has a consumer cellular flip phone and that’s as advanced as he gets. Can’t use the Internet. Can’t operate a smart phone. Wouldn’t even know how to turn on a computer.

They can teach you a shitload, and it's not that hard to help them out every now and then.

We have a few on staff here (they have basic excel skills), and I love feeling like a rockstar if I can help teach them something new.

Age in my experience has nothing to do with tech ignorance.

In my office the 20 year olds can't work around software and hardware well. Depend on me in my 40s.

Our warehouse guy in his 40s doesn't understand the concept of the internet and has a flip phone. Texting is rocket science.

My mom in her 70s has a facebook account and surfs a smart phone.

Boomers will call you lazy for it too. They view efficiency as laziness because they can't comprehend how to do things quickly.

Reminds me of the episode of the Office where they go to the beach to determine the next manager when Michael says "Jim. Not a hard worker. For example, I can spend all day working on a project and he can finish it in 20 minutes. So that should tell you something." lol
