Same issue with poboys. Everyone wants to do poboys. But there’s way too many low quality poboys and poboy places

Problem here, you know that the real true French bread that makes a true poboy can only be bake in New Orleans. Everything else sucks.

I grew up in bossier city and worked hard to avoid it since I went south to LSU
Was there last year for a family matter and stumbled upon lilahs king cakes in Shreveport

I have tried a lot of king cakes and my wife is from New Orleans

But we both gave these the top vote
Unbelievable selection and base dough is perfect for a king cake

I will never have to be back in bossier city but fortunately they will ship

Most poboy shops in South LA use Leidenheimer bread

My homemade cannabutter cream cheese king cake was a hugh hit at the ER last year.

I am hoping to top my record of 12 patients admitted. I mean twelve happy customers.

Like everything else, some are delicious, some are horribly bad. They are not the be-all and end-all the way so many people carry on in social media though. Just like all these people who are "crawfish this, crawfish that, can't get enough crawfish, can't wait until crawfish season..." GTFO. They are good to delicious, but not as important as many make them to be.

Sounds like someone has never been to Old Tyme Grocery in Lafayette.

I dont get the hype around randazzos. Is it jus NOLA people thinking anything from NOLA is automatically the best? I'll eat them but I'm not standing in line for it

Nah, there are several good ones.

With anything food related, I agree about not standing in line.
Except that one time the big boss asked me to bring king cakes to a meeting and that’s how I found myself in line at Randazzos at 5:45AM waiting for them to open

NOLA area resident here; and really not a fan of Randazzo's. They SLATHER that thing with far too much icing, then use those little plastic-y sprinkles for the purple green and gold color. Nasty.

Give me Haydel's or Dong Phuong/Hi-Do any day over Randazzo's (or Caluda's) any day.

They are sickeningly sweet

Everyone likes different stuff. I really only like king cakes with cream cheese, but I'm still more than happy to have a piece of the dry stuff. I can respect your subjective outlier opinion.
