That was me. I'd rather not drink if I can't drink myself to sleep (or they're gone - or both).

I quit altogether though when my wife went on chemo. She's prone to getting violently ill - I'm talking rush to the emergency room ill - at random times.

I refuse to drink and drive because I've made it to old age without getting a DUI somehow and I ain't getting one now. So, I quit altogether and my new hobby is myself. We can't both be sick so I'm concentrating on getting as healthy as I possibly can. I've always kept my health in mind but now I'm really healthy for an old guy.

I used to drink everything I saw from Rock and Rye on a duck hunt to the best red wine available. I set out to quit for a month that turned into 3 years. The change in mind and body was incredible. The restful sleep for the first week is like a drug unto itself.

I drink red wine and gay seltzer now, but stop for at least a week or 2 regularly, just because I can. Good luck to you on your journey.

You're the only one that looks like a pussy.

Dude is asking real questions about himself but you're so concerned about what another man thinks about you that you attack him for having a similar location as you. You trying to catch some dick in here?

A real man stands up to his shite.

OP- I was the same way. There was never just "one beer" for me. If I had it I was drinking it until I couldn't stay awake.

I'll go weeks without a drop sometimes but once I get going I couldn't stop myself. Just got to the point where I realized I'm going to frick up badly one day and never be able to come back.

I tried for about a year to do the "only drink in moderation" bullshite but it always came back to me getting damn near blackout.

I did sober October last year and haven't drank since. I don't know if I'm done for ever but I know I'm not gonna drink tomorrow.

Yep. That’s me. I could go cold turkey for 30 days. Sun-Thurs isn’t the problem. Many times on the weekends I actually could keep in check with a couple of beers here and there.

Unfortunately, if I’m in the wrong environment around the right people, I’ll just keep going. It will happen so fast that I won’t know what hit me until the morning.

I’ve never been in legal trouble or anything. I don’t get angry. Hell, people who’ve seen me have one of these nights typically think it’s funny. Now that I’ve come to, the guilt sets in. I’ve made things awkward for lots of people. I’m an embarrassment to myself and my family. I’m sure I’ll feel shitty for the next couple of days. I feel like all the progress I’ve made re: the bottle has been flushed down the drain.

I can relate. I did this kind of shite until my late 30s.

I can decide to have 0, 1, or 2 drinks. If I have 3, my power is significantly diminished wrt drinks 4-whatever, assuming I'm in a social setting.

At home I have complete control, which wasn't necessarily always the case.

If being yourself is drinking uncontrollably, then you probably should not drink.

You’re right, it does become their problem that you uncontrollably drink. Which is obviously, pretty damn bad.

I switched To almost exclusively wine and beer a while back.

Getting full before you’re blacking out helps slow you down.

I’m at 17 months now. And it’s correct, I can’t handle it. There is no way I can go to any type of event or bar and have just one…
I had to drink beer if it was in the fridge. If there was one or two left I drank them even though it wouldn’t make my buzz any better. I was real bad. Hell I’d start at 8 in the morning some days.

Considering he has been on this forum for 16 years before you I’d say he knows much more about the type of inquiry this forum was created for than a noob douchebag like yourself.

Knowing plenty of “Texas Tigers” I feel it’s safe to say they all would think you are simply an immature kid trying to force down a White Claw or two. Your post doesn’t represent any Texas Tiger I know.

You sound a lot like me, I felt the same way. My drinking accelerated and got really out of hand. I didn't want to admit it. I couldn't quit and didn't want to quit because my life was centered around drinking. I would never have fun again if I quit. July 10 2016 I finally reached out for help. Got sober and my life has never been better. No shame in asking for help. Good luck!

It might be hard but set your sights on 1 month alcohol free just to prove to yourself you can. Take it as a personal challenge, knowing it doesn’t mean you are quitting forever. Smoke some weed every now and then to take the edge off.
