I’m sure there are plenty on this board. I’m not asking if anybody is an alcoholic, just if anybody has zero control when they do get going?

I had a BAD night two nights ago. I’m talking Frank the Tank minus streaking outside. I absolutely hate when I do this. I hadn’t had a bad night this calendar year. I don’t drink during the week. On weekends, sometimes I’ll have some drinks, but I’ve done a good job of keeping it in check until two nights ago. I basically spent all yesterday hungover.

I’ve never been in legal trouble or anything. I don’t get angry. Hell, people who’ve seen me have one of these nights typically think it’s funny. Now that I’ve come to, the guilt sets in. I’ve made things awkward for lots of people. I’m an embarrassment to myself and my family. I’m sure I’ll feel shitty for the next couple of days. I feel like all the progress I’ve made re: the bottle has been flushed down the drain.

Yes, it happens on vacation frequently and especially when I am in Florida but I am usually around people whom I highly trust and they're getting just as shite-faced as me. It becomes a problem when you're getting shite-faced by yourself and you have no one to care for you around to help if necessary.

Baw just put it behind you and keep moving forward making progress. Make apologies and get back on the horse. Don't give up or be discouraged.

I said I didn’t streak outside.

I was supposed to go to the wedding of a friend of a friend. This person is mostly friends with my wife and some others in our inner circle. I was unable to go after it all went down.

My problem is that I enjoy drinking, but I feel like shite afterwards. Can't sleep. When I do sleep, I wake up too early and feel terrible.

So at most I can have one drink, and then that's it. Anything more will result in feeling like I downed a case.

This leads to me not drinking during the week and maybe having a scotch fri/sat night with a cigar. I suppose the answer is to moderate your drinking so you don't feel bad.

Only drink red wine these days. For every con there is a pro to its benefits. The best part about too much red wine is you get tired and go to sleep. Worst part is dry mouth and a little headache the next day.

I’ve never met anyone who went to rehab for red wine habit they couldn’t kick.

The easy answer is to stop drinking completely and permanently. But often that's easier said than done.

If you know when you start you won't be able to stop until bedtime, you pass out, or get arrested; you've got a problem. Whether you admit it or not is a different story.

Sounds like you're doing better than 90% of this board.

I drink any day I feel like it except for Lent. I probably should try a month of abstinence every other month. 14 drinks per week is "moderate" but probably not very good over the long haul.

I know it’s a problem. I’ll admit to that. I don’t think I’m an alcoholic by definition. Usually, I’ll have maybe a 6 pack a week. My problem is every now and then I open the bottle and it gets out of control, especially amongst friends. They won’t hold it against me, but it doesn’t make me feel less guilty.

Yes. I want to reexamine my relationship with boredom. That's what gets me

Are you me? I drink 1-2 glasses in the evening pretty regularly. It’s super rare for me to ever get drunk though.

Yep. If I’m off the following day I’m not stopping until the fridge is empty no matter if that takes until 5am. Decided to quit back in January. Made 3 months this week and feel great

Liquor has been the root of trouble for many men. Stick to beer and the stupidity goes way down.

I get better about it as I get older. Ill still have times where I drink a lot Friday night and most of Saturday and still feel like death well into monday evening.
I havent quite gotten to the point of wanting to completely stop that as im in my 30s, but cant see that happening a decade from now outside of rare occasions.

My last alcohol was in December 2019 when the family got together for Christmas. I haven't had a drink since; I enjoy waking up with my head in one piece.
