We had a guy who eschewed the standard phonetic alphabet for situation specific humor and the commanders let him do it because everyone loved it so much. I specifically remember one radio transmission the day before he was scheduled to go on leave. He had let everyone know he was going to the Bahamas.
B for beach
D for daiquiris
H for hammock
etc.

I'm pretty sure it's the same one, except their words are a lot smaller, especially the jarheads'. I was in boot camp for 9/11 in Jersey, and just like that the coast guard tried to actually get some military bearing. Days of smoking j's down in the passenger compartment of our 41 footers ended about that time.

Yes. I use it all the time. It's amazing what people come up with when they try to use it back on me later in the call.
"My name is Amber, A as in Astronaut, M as in Mommy, B as in Baby, E as in Elephant, and R as in ummm, ummmm, ummm Roll."
I had one lady try to use the phonetic alphabet but just gave me local business names instead.

Having a good buddy that's a Gunny in the Marines, that was an easy one. But someone had to stay stateside at home with all the newly single wives, might as well been us!

I use my own version for the scammers who want an e- mail address. UPY u like in uncle, P like in Paul, Y like in yellow. OU like in ... and so on. YASS .com. Y like in yellow... then I ask them to repeat it back. UPYOURA.S.com. Pisses them off.

Yes, I use the phonetic alphabet all the time. The folks at USAA use it too. Very easy to get things right with that crew.
