Generally, I will put a peel in a napkin, squeeze it, and toss in a trash can wherever I park. But, I have tossed an Apple core out the window in the past in rural settings and thought of it as feeding the local fauna.

You were not aware that you can get a ticket/fine for littering?

I wouldn't consider a banana peel littering, since 1 day in the sun will shrivel it up into nothing if a bird/squirrel doesn't get it first. Paper yet, banana peel no

I've done it. Figure no harm no foul with something organic and edible to wildlife.

It takes a while for stuff like a banana peel to break down

I’ve had bananas go bad at home that would disagree with this…..

I keep a plastic bag in the car and put all my trash in it. Once a week I throw the whole bag out the window. Makes it easier on the inmates when it is all already bagged up for them.

Always. My Dad did this, and when I would ask him why, he always said, "the birds will eat it". I passed the tradition on to my kids...

I was wondering about this the other day...because I'll definitely peel a grapefruit while I'm rolling down the highway and toss the pieces as I go.

They are organic and get smashed into smithereens and are food for the bugs.

Now a whole pile somewhere? Probably not. But scattered? No big deal

Same thing with people in boats, people are so quick to just throw shite out of their boat as if by it sinking means it just goes away.

You think throwing biodegradable material in the water is an issue?

I meant trash in general. And just because something is biodegradable doesn't mean you just throw it out wherever.

I don't think I've eaten a piece of fruit in my car this century.

But I have no problem with tossing organic stuff onto the earth.

Biodegradable stuff goes in the water to feed the fish and turtles

Anything biodegradable should always be ok to chunk out the window, especially a Banana. Question is, did you remove the sticker on the banana first?

Bananas compost quickly and the animals enjoy any food left in it. Why would you not throw it on side of a country road?

It's one of the biggest reasons birds of prey get hit by cars. Small mammals snack on the discarded item and hawks (and other raptors) fly down to snack on them and get clipped by cars.

Only into wooded areas where the critters can safely eat the nanner peels.

I happily dump crawfish, shrimp, and crab shells in the river and move about my day just fine

And guess what, I catch plenty of good sized cafish off the same dock

Kinda makes sense when you think about it
