I agree. I’ve been in the field for 15 years. I pulled some strings and she interviewed great and got in. She won’t ever be able to leave this position though because no matter her experience, she’ll prob never find another one.

I do a good bit of interviewing for work...frankly, most individuals that have only a high school education can hardly fill out the application correctly, let alone pass the required drug test...

Here's the answer: Saturation of undergraduate degrees. There are hundreds of jobs whose skill level does not require an undergraduate degree but whose hiring policy does simply because there is an overabundance of this population in the job market.

I was in LA for a while after Katrina. Some jobs were requiring a degree for $11/hr work than a 10th grade student could do.

I have a bachelor's degree and make about the same money as I would in Texas or Tennessee. I know because I've been offered jobs in both states in the past 5 years. Maybe I'm the exception?

They’ll lay you off in a heartbeat to save some bottom line. They can then replace you at the drop of a hat if you get too bawtastic and want to bite the hand that feeds. Just sludge along... getting fatter...hope the company doesn’t have “lay-offs” because you have no other marketable skills. Get back to the trailer that costed less than their truck, hopefully not find some meth addict balls deep in their fat wife, crack open a butt-light, open the Tigerdroppings, then proceed to get offended out of insecurity when someone explains that there may just be a better quality of life than that.
Is all that really worth it for a trailer, a shitty Cummings, and Pigeon Forge once a year?
You're just jealous that Costa didn't have to hear no queer liberal professors and is now making $20/hr. Who's going to be laughing when he takes his wife and son Daxton to Destin this July for their yearly vacation?

Not really. You could just be good at your job.
Companies will pay top dollar for quality workers. The discrepancy regarding salary is mostly in entry-level positions.
Some places will pay just at or slightly above average in order to get a decent applicant to stay. However, many places will offer lower than national average simply because they want someone on the cheap and I quote "don't want to spend too much on someone who will leave anyway"
This obviously creates a paradox, since whoever they do hire will usually leave within a 2-year timeframe since they learned the skills to get a better job.

Dude that's harsh. Some people don't have the same values as you and that is still ok. There is nothing wrong with someone working blue collar for 35k. As long as they are good people and take care of their family who the frick cares if they have a high paying job or not. I know lots of good people who had no desire to go to college and are perfectly content with their lives and their vacation to Gulf Shores or Pigeon Forge. That is some conceited arse thinking you put out there.

I could move to a high cost of living area for a 30% or so raise but it would cost me 50% more to live there

So you are making 6% less than those states because of income tax, and yes, you are the exception.
