Do you think an international travel ban could've prevented this Shite storm?

It seems logical that an international travel ban on all countries back in late Jan/early Feb could've slowed the pandemic down tremendously. Yea...it would've pissed off a lot of people and fricked up the global market...but look where we are now.

It would have but this board still thought it was a cold at that point so could you imagine the backlash it would have received? There would have been protests all around the country.

An early travel ban to/from China would have certainly helped. That's assuming it was in place early enough and China had been honest in regards to the virus when it was first discovered.

I haven't seen a gif that I can't figure out if I love or hate in a while. This one is confusing.

Trump was labeled a xenophobic racist for shutting it down when he did.

if you knew it was going on in china and you stopped all air travel into usa we would be laughing at italy and spain instead of laughing at the bettors in nyse.

I don't think an early travel ban on China would've been enough. If you were stuck over there, all you would've had to do was catch a flight to another country before flying to the USA.

Only thing that could have shut this down would have been to take a cut throat approach - close the borders on the country.

For any US citizen outside of the country at that time, pay for their expenses. It would have cost less than the stimulus package

But then you get into the discussion if a US citizen dies outside of the country because of the closure. That's a completely different discussion

Actual screening in airports would have stopped most of that. A mandatory quarantine period put in place for anyone coming from China or who had been in China would have been useful.

Unless you kept the travel ban for a full year, or likely much longer, the virus would eventually have made it's way here.

Right. You would have had to shut down ALL international flights going in/out of the country.

In retrospect would that have been worth it? Who knows.

Screening was weak as frick. My girlfriends mother flew from Seoul to San Francisco to Minneapolis and didn't get screened for shite. At the time South Korea had over 2000 cases and we had like 15.

Maybe so but we weren't really paying much attention to what was going on in China then were we ?

Many traveled for the Chinese New Year. No way to contain. Could’ve slowed some.
