I don't understand the people who build up their leave. There was a guy who just retired that had 3000 hours of annual and 1500 sick.

I'm just thinking to myself what if you died before getting that in a check?

I'd be like "bro, go relax for once. It's good to chill out for a little while from time to time." But I guess he's lucky the employer doesn't cap accrued time. Many I know cap it at whatever the max is you can get in a year. I don't want my employees to burn themselves out. Go enjoy life.

People should take more mental health days, especially the way we work the people in our country. My Dad rarely took off when he worked and his biggest regret in retirement is not taking enough time to take care of himself. Especially physically.

You're absolutely right, but people will downvote the hell out of it.

We’re talking about personal days.

They’re quite literally used for any purpose.

Touche... but its a special kind of prick to use them for political grand standing.

Our company has a few days of PTO called ILCERN (I literally can't even right now)
But the catch is you have to wear black yoga pants with brown uggs, drink pumpkin spice latte, and make snapchats the whole day.

One of the dumbest things companies do is set days, that you’ve earned by the way, as a specific absence type. I’ve earned those days through my work. I should be able to take it to do what the frick I want.

Very true, however taking those days and politically grandstanding... that's another story. That is attention seeking "me" behavior, and that behavior is a cancer

Or you work for a shitty employer.

This seems sort of judgmental.
What if this is his dream job? What if this is the only opportunity available in his part of the world? What if this job is the only job that is capable of providing for this man’s family sufficiently.

But if they are only using their earned time off, who cares?

I can sympathize.

I’m married with small children and work is less stressful than home 90% of the time.

Nothing until 1 year with company. So basically June 1st I’ll have a total of 5 freaking vacation days. Don’t get 10 days until 3 years I think. I should have never took the job but figured some of the flexibility and other benefits outweighed it. I feel I was misled. That 25% travel is at 0%.
Trying to go elsewheres.

It’s their earned time. There’s nothing “attention seeking” about that.

Are you asking if I ever take time off that I've earned, but don't actually leave town to go on "vacation"? Yes, of course. Why in the hell wouldn't I?

Now, I don't take them because I'm butt hurt over a judicial nomination, but I definitely take them when I'm tired of dealing with other people's shite and could use a break.

Well yeah. That’s been my position this whole thread. “Self care” days are nothing new. People have had personal days for years. The behavior that is to be criticized here isn’t the personal day, it’s the manner in which it’s taken. Taking the day then posting the reason on Facebook for attention is a douche move.
