Nah, but I'm also a workaholic who rarely takes vacations or days off for anything other than sick days, so you probably don't want to be like me either.

I’m not talking about taking personal days or vacation days. It’s this concept of the self care day - it’s weird. Like people are too beaten and victimized to go to work (look up Cortez’s reasons for missing work) and need to be rejuvenated through some kind of whimsical therapy at home.

It’s a personal day with a different name.

The only issue is that you know the reason why they took it and it’s because they’re attention whores who want to grandstand.

When did “self care” become a thing?

I take “I don’t care” days.

I take a couple of "F**K It" days ever year to replenish my "give a s**t", which gets depleted over 5-6 months.

Minutes? Lucky bastard. I am more of a 30 seconds type.

Where did self care days even come from?

So-called "adults" unable to cope with reality, so they grandstand by calling it a "self care day" when in actuality, no one gives a shite about them or their politics.

We have sick time and vacation separate but no one checks on the “reason” for using sick time unless it’s over 3 days then we require a doctors note.

A simple text, email, or call of “ don’t feel well not coming in today” is enough. I don’t care the reason and don’t want to know the symptoms and don’t expect my team to provide it.

Personal days typically require a prior notice and then approval.

Not going to work one day simply because reality is too harsh doesn't seem like an excused absence.

Ugh. I wish I could. I don’t have much reliable help in the office so any time I take off I know I’m returning to a massive shitstorm that will take twice as long to fix. I’m going to end up losing a ton of pto this year

My place had up to 5 weeks vacation and up to 40 days sick time (carry over 10 days a year). They got rid of the sick days and gave everyone (10+years) 5 weeks PTO. Those fake sick days were called "Mental Health Days".

People used those sick days as vacation time and were pissed when they lost them. I personally had 40 days but realized those days were not "owed" or "belonged to me".

this.

and anyone who takes a "mental health day" or a "self care day" is likely posting on social media about it and is likely desperate for attention.

Yep, but my self care involves drinking beer at 11am while I watch the opening games of March Madness
