TV on, I fall asleep in 5 minutes then she turns it off
Some nights I turn it on and fall asleep before I pick something to watch with remote in my hand

That’s truly a gift. I struggle to fall asleep and stay asleep.

Not anymore. Just warms the room up too much. I think put off some serious heat.

Sleep timer: 60 mins.
There's been many a time in my life though that it turns off before I'm asleep, which is usually followed with a quiet little "motherfricker" under my breath.
This is me. I know that it's not scientifically accepted as best practice, but similar to others in the thread, if I am laying in silence and dark my mind is thinking of things I need to do/want to do/how to do them/etc. Constantly making plans and it's hard to shut off my brain. Low volume boring tv helps that.

never got the people who need the bright arse TV to be on
I sleep with it on but I use the TV to help shut my head down. I watch stuff I have seen a million times so I don't 'need' to stay up and watch it but it helps shut down the 10,000 things that would keep me up thinking about.

I can fall asleep any time, anywhere, it's too easy. Set my alarm, it goes off, I'm up. Never needed a snooze alarm.

that's just disassociation more than what they have to do. It's just personal preference. People who go thru trauma do different things. I went thru childhood trauma and I hate to fall asleep with the TV on.

We do not have a TV in the bedroom. Thankfully we both feel the bedroom is for sleeping.

Most TV's have a sleep timer you can use.

Where do you stand?
No TV. Day or nite. I have one that someone gave me. The last time it was turned on was for Hurricane Harvey. I don’t know how to work it anyway.

We have one because my wife likes listening to the news when she's getting dressed for work. Pretty much the only time it's ever on is from about 7-8am on weekdays.

TV in the bedroom is trashy

Psychologist say it's common in people with unresolved childhood trauma
That sounds like a bullshite "come in and get my analysis" pitch.
I do it all the time and had no such events in my childhood. Mind your own business, Shrinks.
BTW- this is why TVs have included sleep timers for years, now. More people do it than don't.

I'll often put it on one of the YouTube channels that have a 10 hour video with blacked out screen that plays thunderstorm, beach waves or blizzard sounds.

No indeed.
I do have several fans on though

Sleep habits are terrible for something like 80+% of human beings. The best way to rest is in a dark, cool environment uninterrupted. Sound machines aide in keeping you asleep. Our minds are programmed around light. Our brain thinks it should be up around light. I'll never understand people that constantly bitch about not getting enough rest or that their kid is waking up too early when they put a sheer curtain up in their room and light starts coming in at 5am.

I absolutely have to have the TV on when I go to sleep it relaxes me.
Can't sleep in the pitch black dark, with nothing but silence and my thoughts. Makes it worse.

I usually put a history podcast on a timer for like 30 mins. Find if I do that I fall asleep within 10 mins
Posted on 7/2/24 at 10:35 am to dyslexiateechur
Nope. The husband and I like it pitch black and quiet.
