Do you "Size People Up" when picking a checkout line at the store?

Nevermind how full their cart is. You just go by the visual test.

You look at the person in line and say to yourself: "This lady LOOKS like she's going be difficult. I think I'm gonna get in this other line"

You check out, then glance over and notice that the same woman is still at the counter asking questions about every other item that she bought or something. You trusted your instincts and it worked out.

Yeah sometimes.

Elderly people are the not the best to end up behind inline if you're in a hurry.

Of course. It would be irresponsible to do anything else.

Ziplock full of coupons. Nope.
Checkbook in hand. Nope.
Kids screaming for candy while they try to unload the cart. Nope.

I try not to get behind older people. Also any woman with one of those checkbook style wallets I know is gonna be trouble.

Man I tell you what. I was grabbing some booze from Albertsons before the State game a couple Saturdays ago.

2 people in front of me:

1. Lady about my age(40s) breaks out her checkbook AFTER given the total and makes out the check. I chuckled in disbelief.

2. This elderly dude had a two-pack of steaks with a discount sticker on it. I figured this'll be quick. Nahhhh. He pulls a receipt out of his pocket. He got all the way home and realized he was charged full price for these two steaks. Savings was ~$3 from what I could tell. This transaction takes about 2 minutes as he has to put card in, manually sign a refund slip, etc.

TLDR I do try to size up customers and cashiers as I walk up to a checkout line. But I failed Miserably a couple weekends ago.

I look for lines with mostly lonely looking men. They usually just want to get their shite and leave with minimal chit chat.

IMO, the bank drive-thru and grocery stores should have one line that queues before the checkout, with each successive person moving to the next open lane/register.

That way a slow customer only affects their individual transaction and not everyone behind them.

i typically skip the line when I see the off brand cereal, milk, peanut butter etc. It's typically someone using WIC. I'm not against the WIC per say, just that most of the Moms on it dont know what they can and cant use it for and end up trying to be educated on it while holding up the line.

I look at the cashier to see if they're struggling. Then I look at the items on the belt and cart. Then I abandon my cart because nobody got time for this.

The Walmart scan and go lines with a conveyor belt are amazing.
