Buy some big item that you can't bag and see what happens.

Most of the time, I just hand it to them and keep walking. I don't need it anyway. Saves me the hassle of throwing it away.

I also have direct knowledge that Wal-Mart cares about specific items when it comes to shrink, and half the time their facial recognition system will store your image with the "questionable transaction."

Ever noticed how they now have small screens that are aimed directly at your face at all self checkouts

I like you.

They usually ask "can I see your receipt?" not "can I see your receipt and check your items"

Malicious compliance is the best. The looks they get are priceless too.

Last time I was at wal mart I had a cart full of bagged items and was holding the receipt in my hand. No way I was stopping for some illiterate felon to look at my stuff.

You could have saved some time by just typing "Yes, I do it to be a douche"

Some people complain that more people need to be off of welfare and seek gainful employment... then opt to give the people who put in a days work a hard time because it's inconvenient to flash a receipt. Awesome.

Half the theft at Wal-Mart doesn't come from shoplifters or people taking something off the shelves without paying for it. It comes from people "returning" the laptop they bought a week ago with what is actually the box the laptop came in with their ten year old laptop that fried on them two weeks ago stuffed inside and hoping the person at the customer service desk doesn't actually check the brand or serial number of the laptop before "refunding" their money. Or they will come in with a receipt they found in the trash can outside, get a hold of a plastic Wal-Mart bag, fill it with a bunch of stuff and flash their "receipt" when they go by the greeter on their way out. The greeter isn't checking to see if you have a receipt. The greeter is checking to see if the receipt you have has all the stuff in your cart on it. Also given the number of thieves typically in any Wal-Mart at any particular time just because AP is watching a thief it does not mean they are watching the thief that is walking by the people greeter at that time.

A big reason for the recent changes to WM stores, at least in Texas, is to do away with checkers so they cannot steal for their friends and family, hence the increase in self checkout lanes. They've also placed inward swinging bars at entrances so no walking out.

No such thing at the HEB in town though.

It depends. If no line, sure.

If a line, they get a polite "no thank you" as I go by.

Related: I’m a decent enough looking guy, though poor & trashy AF by OT metrics.

When I happen to catch myself in the self-check cashier monitor it’s God Damned Zombie Apocalypse.

It’s like a mugshot on crack on Florida.

The majority of the time I show it. In the cases where I am in a rush or a bad mood, I reply, I just paid for this so it's mine now, and I don't want to show you my stuff. I only have used it a few times, the clerks just stare with a blank look for a second and we both move on.

It's no better Uptown in Nola on Tchoupitoulas & Jackson. It's those mirrors. Why do we have to show a receipt once we've paid? This some bullshite.
