re: Do you show your receipt

I don't go in anymore, I let them come to me.

I always show them. I would rather it be obvious from the start or obvious leaving register, but that's just more of a convenience in case I packed receipt in my Constanza filing cabinet and went without a cart while getting more than planned & then asked trying to carry out bags in both hands.

I noticed years ago the black receipt checker only asked for it when other black customers were around. So I started walking by silently. I really need to renew my Costco and move from BR

They just started doing this at my local Walmart. I’ve been asked once but the person gave up because I balled the receipt up into a small ball and threw it into one of the bags. She got tired of me searching each bag, I guess.
She wanted to scan the code on it to “put me in the system.” From now on, I won’t ball up the receipt but I will tear off the bottom portion that has the scan code and transaction number and destroy that. I’m concerned about identity theft. The receipt says “Customer Copy” so it’s my property to do with as I please.

Jesus. How in the hell would a Walmart employee steal your identity from a receipt?

Why the frick would you want to make their very low wage job even hammers hard? You’re probably poor as frick

You sound a little defensive. Maybe you’re part of the cabal.

Thanks, OP, for making some poor schmuck's shitty job even shittier.
The public would be better served by putting that poor schmuck at one of the 10 closed registers while the line is 8 deep at the two open registers.

Keep being sheep. I'll smile as I pass you all standing in line to leave a store so your personal property can be looked at.
It’s not about being a sheep. It’s about being an adult and acknowledging that sometimes you don’t get to operate however you want just because you think something is pointless and not be an a-hole for doing so. This is one of those times.
Yes. You are right. It is a pointless exercise to check receipts at the door. Everyone knows that. You haven’t uncovered anything ground breaking. It’s simply less dick-ish to follow the norms established in their store. It costs all of 10 seconds to avoid being a dick and the fact that you can’t afford that says a lot about you.
If you really believed in this crusade to rid WM of bad policy, you’d take it up with corporate and talk to people who actually have the power to change it. Instead of making someone else’s day crappier. Because that’s literally all you’re accomplishing here.

I do, because lack of respect for personal property is becoming an epidemic and I want to help fight this. It's not a perfect approach to the problem but at least the receipt-checker is doing something.

Well you showed em. I hope you throw up a
Clinched fist when you defy “the man” by this incredible act of disobedience.
fricking idiot.

I get asked nearly every time I walk out of WM. I just smile and keep going, and it's never been a forced issue.
Anyone stop or do you keep walking too.
Yea, screw that person for just trying to do their job

Unreal how many do this without thinking, whether they feel sorry for the WM worker, or that they are required to do so.
It's not about sticking it to the man, raging against the machine, or whatever inane reason people willingly go along with just cuz everyone else does it.
I buy something and walk out with it in a bag, I no more feel the need to show a door clerk its contents as I would what's in my wallet. Both are my property. Want to see what's in them, get a warrant.
I've never been stopped for keep walking and saying no thank you. People can stop if they want to, but I don't work for WM so their policies don't apply to me. I want to buy something and leave, and not be stopped for suspicion of stealing, which is exactly what checking receipts is supposed to be for.
Feel free to flame away... I'd rather they respect my privacy and not assume me a thief.

They only stop the people that have items that are not bagged, so I shove everything in a bad and walk out. No problems
Posted on 2/23/20 at 6:06 pm to TechBullDawg
Sure. It takes a few seconds. The person asking for it didn’t make the policy. Don’t make their day miserable.

You probably couldn’t afford the Costco membership anyway.

Only if I don't bag everything. Ive learned thru only ask if something isn't in a bag. So now I bag drinks and other things I used to not.
I tried using reusable bags but they check too much.

This. Nothing they can do about it. It's store policy. Now they do have some heavy handed employees. One lady I never go out her door. She took five minutes checking everything one time and took stuff out of bags. Just as hassle.

You seem stupid. Almost like the whole point is lost on you. I guess it is. You keep on being you.
Sorry I said no to your mom as I left the store. But its my property :)
